In the Old Testament there are a lot of people who cannot approach the alter. It is symbolic of the requirement to enter God's presence. You must be perfect. (physical defects is symbolic of your spiritual state)

Only a priest could approach the alter. If you didn't follow the rigid guidelines of a priest and the correct procedure, you would be struck dead. And even then, a priest could only approach the alter once a year.

The idea was to show man how far removed he is from God and that on his own, man can not met God's standards. This puts man in a position that he can not ever be with God.

Then Jesus shows up, pays for all of man's sins, and opens the door freely to all who belive. This is why, at Jesus death, the curtain of the temple was torn in two. There is no longer a divide between God and man, thank to the blood of Jesus.

Leviticus 21 is Rules for Priests, the sons of Aaron. The Lord is not outlawing them from worshipping or taking communion. He is, however, prohibiting them, in the context of the old testament, or the old treaty with the Isrealites, form being priests. Why? I do not know. Definately NOT because he doesn't love them.

And where "Starfish" got her info. you got me. Here is the King James Version chapter 21 to the Levites. Has nothing to do with a scape goat. Hello!

As typically you totally misinterpreted what you read: This is clearly talking about making atonement for sins,it does not have a thing to do with physicaly dissabled people. .
In the Old Testament, only the priest, the Levittes could enter the holy of holies:
No one else,only the priest:
It had nothing at all to do with any physical infermatis, even healthy people could not enter the holey of holies in the Temple of God.
This is where God commands the Levitt's (the priest of Israel) to place the sins of the people on the head of a (SCAPE GOAT),to carry the sins of the people.
Thus the saying scape goat.
Hello down there/this verse is most definatly talking about the scape goat:Leviticus 21/22: And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

Still using the laws of punishment against God, are we? Don't you know that people in prison have different rules then the rest of us? Accept the grace of Gods forgiveness and stop beating your brow on the pavement. Really.

I don't think that is what God thinks but those people at that time think and put it in the Book.
