Purina pro plan. It has high amounts of the main protein, broken down to a level that can be digested easier & not give the dog any gasto or allergy problems. If I use other brands Iams, Eukanuba, my lab gets ear infection cuz they set off his allergies.

I stick with the premium dog foods (no fillers like rice bran, wheat middlings or meat by products, which are horns, hooves, sinew, fur and feathers). I've always mixed wet and dry together and varied the menu from day-to-day. This month my two dogs, a 9 year old Golden Retriver and a 13 year old Malamute mix, are eating EVO, a non-grain based kibble. Each day they get something different mixed in with the kibble: California Natural, EVO canned, Soup for the Senior Dog Lover's Soul, Wysong, Dick Van Patten's Duck, Canidae, Wellness, and other high quality canned foods. Sometimes I'll switch to a BARF (raw) diet. I've never had a problem changing foods, even with Sarah, the Malamute mix, whom I adopted two months ago. Both dogs look great, are healthy and active, and I don't need to feed as much food. Plus, they have smaller, less smelly stools and they don't poop as often. Expensive, yes. Worth it, double yes!
I tried the new Science Diet for dogs with osteoarthritis. All it did was give my Golden hot spots, which he'd never had before. I gave most of the bag to our local humane organization. The ingredients are pure garbage - read the label!
Iams is Not a premium dog food - just priced like one.

I switched from California Natural Lamb & Rice to home made food made with basically chicken breast, a little liver, brown rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cottage cheese, a bite of the dry kibble, nutrional supplements and bit of flaxseed oil.
My dog is 7 years old, and just had a blood test. The vet said her heart, kidneys and etc. funtion as a 1 year old dog. Since she has been on this diet her weight has gone down to what it should be, she has more energy, her hair is shinier, she sheds less and her teeth are white and clean.
It sounds like a lot of work but it isn't. Once a week I cook a batch and sometime freeze a little for later. It only takes me 1 minute to dish out her meal. She is one happy dog!

A handful of a quality, high-protein, preservative-free dog biscuit each day, sometimes with a raw egg or some olive oil on top if the coat is looking dull, sometimes with vegemite and hot water to make a mash if it is freezing; weekly, a huge, raw marrow bone split longwise so they can eat the marrow; twice a week, a piece of low-quality raw meat like a lamp flap, as dogs in the wild eat offal, fur, skin, bone, all that stuff which provides fibre. Wild dogs ignore steaks and rump roasts, nutritionally those cuts of meat are not worth eating.

Innova EVO for both of my dogs. my young dog gets the kibble, my older dog gets a mix of the kibble and canned EVO. canned food has fewer carbs and helps keep the weight off. EVO is grain free and contains a lot of organic, human quality ingredients. If what goes in dog food isn't fit for human consumption you probably shouldn't be feeding it to your dog!!
Here is a good site for dry food information...they explain what the different ingredients are and what to shy away from http://www.iei.net/~ebreeden/kibble.html
Whole Dog Journal is a great source of information. They don't have advertisers, therefore they don't have to cater to them or their products. They give you more of the truth than other dog publications do.

I have a 2 yr old, neutered, 70lb, shepard/besinji mix. He is picky to say the least, and after the first month of having him and trying every thing this is what he eats every time. 4 cups of Purina: Beneful Original and 3 squirts of Iams: Savory Sauce(I use every flavor), and I shake it all up to get the sauce on all the food. This keeps his diet mainly dry food(good for teeth and breath), but he get the wet taste from the Savory Sauce. I eat out frequently and love throwing him food so he catches it but I try to watch it. I don't need a dog with high cholesterol.
I have a couple of pictures of him on mySpace in my pics if anyone is interested. He's as smart as he is cute.

Nature's Recipe, Lamb and Rice formula. Lamb is the easiest meat, and rice is the easiest grain to digest. Your dog will only need to eat about half the amount of food you were feeding him. Check the list of ingredients on your current food. If corn is anywhere in there, it is strickly a filler. My dogs actually got bigger, and more muscular when I switched.

My Pit Bull gets Pinnacle's Trout and Potato kibble along with Pinnacle's Duck and Potato canned food. He also gets raw food(chicken quarters and pork neck bones).
My Catahoula and Border Collie get Chicken Soup For the Dog Lovers Soul kibble with Pinnacle's Duck and Potato canned. They also get raw food. They aren't as sensitive as the Pit and the Chicken Soup food contains less fillers than a lot of dog foods.

I mostly feed my dog people-- preferably babies, but young children and frail adults work well, too. I try to avoid feeding them Asians, though. Nothing against Asians, it's just that the dogs end up hungry again in an hour. . .

People - Science Diet, Iams, and Eukanuba are crappy foods! They spend to much on advertising and not enough on their foods.
Study up on nutrition, there are some very good articles online. STUDY the labels!
If you are going to feed these crappy foods, you might as well trot on down to the grocery store and get cheaper crappy food.
I feed Royal Canin, but really like Dick Van Pattens natural Balance and Canidae.
