Contraband is a term for items which are not allowed. Some examples would be (Say in prison) weapons, drugs, even food stashes (depending on the rules) and as I understand it can varry from person to person. One individual may have earned the right to have food in their cell while another may not.

it's an illegal substance or something that isn't supposed to be there. I work in a lock down facility and I found a pop tab in a shoe, maybe to you that doesn't seem like much, but it didn't belong in the facility. therefore they were charged with contraband. with intent to harm.
