my hair is a really light brown but still brown and has a little red in it. If i use red expressions, would it go redder? and if i use brunette expressions, would it go darker?

Just think about this. If you put red on red it will be reddder. common since here. Brunette is a dark red.(look at the base colors on the box) It will be a darker red. You are not just using the color that is in the box you have a color pigment in your hair you are also using. I would suggest highlighting your hair and try to match the highlights with the ends of your hair and then if it isnt what you want you can always use the brunette.
NOTE: It is always easier to go darker than to go lighter.
