The thing is, good red wines are not too sweet, unless you are talking about dessert wines or ports.

If you are talking about these, then Beringer has a very nice Port. Anne Amie also has great Syrah Port.

Sinnean makes an outstanding Late Harvest Zin that is worth getting.

If you are talking about fruity - then go for a good Zinfandel (Martin & Weyrich has a good one), or a Syrah. Goose Ridge 2002 Syrah is very jammy and a little sweet.

Good luck to you.

Pretty much all sweet red wines are dessert wines. A nice port will do, but my personal favorite is a sparkling wine called Rosa Regale from Italy. Whenever I get into a fight with my girlfriend, I bring home a bottle of the Rosa and everything is all better. It has a strong rose petal flavor with a subtle hint of strawberry and chocolate (clase your eyes and savor and you'll get the chocolate). It runs about 30 or so a bottle or you can get a half bottle for 18 or so. Try it with some strawberry shortcake. AWESOME!!!!

any port wine is sweet but maybe not what you are looking for as they are more in the aperitif classification or after dinner drink.

If you are looking for a sweet red with food I suggest a California zinfandel (not white zinfandel) or a Chianti which is an Italian red wine.
For a more dryer but sophisticated red I suggest a Merlot. You can't go wrong with that. I enjoy a 1995 Hogue Merlot but it's hard to find.
Try wines under $10.00 a bottle and work your way up in price as you become more experienced.

Tokay, 5 puttonos. Port wine from England or Portugal that is more than 10 years old.

Try Wyatt brand. Its relatively inexpensive and very good. Also it doesn't contain much tannin. Also if you want to look on your own most bottles will have a listing of key flavors, if you want it sweet stay away from oaky or other woodsy flavors, low tannin is good, and make sure they contain fruity extracts.
