Some A/C & refrigeration technitions used the a/c compressor as a vacuum pump after repair and before charging the refrigerant , as follow :
1-connect the suction pipe of the compressor to system to be evacuated , be sure that all system outlets are closed tightly
2-operate the compressor while its discharge pipe is completely opened, until you get the required vacuum
you can follow the same idea for air compressor ,install filter/separator at air compressor suction pipe for protection

Try a venturi vacuum pump that attaches to the air compressor.
Go to: http://www.anver.com/document/vacuum%20components/vacuum%20generators/QVP%20Generators/modular_venturi_q-vp10.htm
I have not used one, but I heard from someone it needs a pretty big air compressor to make it really work good.

Ummm... I wouldn't suggest that... unless there is a SPECIFIC tool made for it, I mean, really. Do you you truely want to have DIRT in your air-compressor?
