If stealing a car and/or leading officers on a highspeed chase, thus endangering the lives of innocent people, resulted in a serious beat down (with or without blunt object), maaaaaybe...PEOPLE WOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT DOING IT!!!

If not for punishment, for entertainment's sake.

The way I see it, the beating is a walk in the park compared to what would have happened to the victims of an accident caused by the criminal that led the high speed chase.

But to answer your question, it is because the liberals hate to see anything bad happen to the criminals. Now, if the criminal had caused an accident and seriously injured or killed an innocent person, the liberals would not care at all. They would just shrug it off and say stuff happens. Well, then again, some would probably blame to cops for chasing the criminal, since they think criminals have no responsibility for their actions.

"Because I didn't deserve that!" Or so most will claim. Most of these people feel they are above the law, the law doesn't matter, or laws apply to everyone except them.

Legally, getting beaten by a cop is Cruel and Unusual Punishment, as per the 8th amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eighth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution)

Morally, it isn't fair for a cop to beat a speeder. Some cops might beat them too long, and others might beat them too little. But, it sure would be nice if we could let cops "tune up" (beat) major offenders. It might just make them think twice before breaking the law.

However, a good beating might just insure that the criminals will be more violent. They will be more prone to continuing to run, or trying to kill the cop. So on the whole I like the cops that are polite to the crooks. They calm them down, and try to reduce the level of violence. In this way they reduce the chance of themselves, the criminals, and innocent bystanders of getting hurt.

The police officers job is not to chase down people and beat the hell out of them. Their job is to apprehend them and let the courts dole out the punishment.

Everytime I see 15 cops pile on top of some dude who got caught, I wish a citizen would open fire and stop this from going on. I am tired of cops doing whatever they want and the worst that happens to them is they get fired, no jail time.

I guess because they don't know what the Bible says about things like that.

Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.

Need I say more?

When you see it on tv, or read about it in the newspaper/internet, it doesn't seem so life threatening. All we hear about is the "beat down" as you put it. The media may be partly to blame as they sensationalize stories. As far as thinking twice, I am not sure... until it happens to you... plus we live in this blameless society. No one seems to think they are at fault for anything.

I have and idea lets let the police kill them or maim them are you kidding with this question? I understand why police officers want to my brother is an officer. We have laws for a reason why should we allow them to break a law just because someone else was extremely stupid.
