Definitely needs to be seen by a vet. Skin diseases are notoriously hard to diagnose in person and can never be done if you can't see the dog. If it's mange, the vet has to do a skin scraping to examine the mites with a microscope. The vet will then give you meds and a medicated bath.
If it's intestinal worms, the stool has to be examined to see what kind - again meds. Don't try to do it randomly with over the counter products. Poor nutrition can cause hair loss, but not usually radical hair loss. I like Nutro - it has no "by products" and is reasonably priced. There are also serious illnesses which cause hair loss that can only be diagnosed with blood tests and an in-person examination.

My dog had the same condition when she was a puppy. I went to my vet and he really didn't give me a definitive answer, however I think she had skin allergies, especially if they a young their skin is more sensitive to grass, pollen, plants, etc. My suggestion is keep the dog indoors to see if the bumps go away. If you changed the dog's food, that could be the problem also. Another option is to use this medicated shampoo for skin allergies, it is called Chlorhexi Derm Shampoo from DVM Pharmaceuticals, it really helped my dog get rid of her bumps and hotspots. It is basically an antiseptic that kills bacteria, fungus, and microorganisms that cause allergies. Hope this helps, Good Luck!!

It could be your dog has developed an allergy to grass or whatever his belly is in contact with, ie: carpet, wood flooring, yadda. Take him to the vet, get it checked out.

Additionally, how's the heat level in your area? Is it really hot? Is your pup not used to this? It could be a heat rash. Either way, check with the vet, no one wants a miserable pup!

Hot spots are generally larger.

Could be gnat bites, is he outside quite a bit? My parents dogs get them sometimes.

I wouldn't use frontline unless absolutely necessary. Personally, I refuse to coat my dogs skin with chemicals.
