I hardly ever wear a suit. but on the rare occasion that one is required, i would like to take the opportunity of being in Thailand to purchase one, without spending loads of money and still look smart.

I think the best way to judge by yourself. There are many at Sukhumvit road in Bangkok and offer same quality and same service.. the differentiation would be their specific courtsey to you ... so do visit number of tailor shops and then decide.. :)

there are so many good tailors and all are very cheap
as with everything else u must haggle
only pay around half the original asking price and try to get some things such as ties thrown in free
most of the tailors can reproduce any sytle u like so i suggest u pick a style out of a magazine b4 u go and take that mag with u
a good tailor will b able to copy it straight from the mag
ps bangkok is the mutts nuts

If you're a "farlang" (foreigner) you will end up paying more than the average Thai person no matter what. I think I recall seeing some tailor shops around the Indian Market. Either way, it will probably end up being less than if you bought it from the US, etc. I might also recommend asking someone in the front desk of the hotel you'll be staying at to recommend a good and fair priced local tailor they might know of. Good luck!

Don't ask a local, or a tuk tuk driver, they'll just point you towards a relative or someone paying them to take you there, regardless of the quality of the tailor. You're best off asking the hotel where a good area for tailors is, and having a look yourself. The affluent-looking ones will be the best, because they're doing well for a reason. Then haggle haggle haggle!!

Try Raja Fashions on Nana (South) Road off of Sukhumvit Road. It's inexpensive, high-quality, and incredibly, the owner, Bobby Raja remember all his clients by name, no matter how long ago they had their suits made. They also serve just about any drink you want while you're waiting to be measured.
