Since the Koran was written before Darwin came on the scene, I know there are no references to it, but I imagine that followers of Islam have opinions on this subject. Is there any "official" stance? Are individual Muslims free to decide on this subject for themselves?

To clarify: Some Christians believe God set evolution in motion. As a Muslim, do you see this as a possible scenario?

Koran was written before evolutionary theory, so were all other major religions (as far as I know)
Anything you hear from people stating otherwise is there interpritation of a religion.

I'm curious to know this, myself. I believe, however, that Muslims also believe in Intelligent Design (I.E. God's creation), so they probably do not believe in evolution. Muslims are much like Christians and Jews, it just seems that the sects don't each realize it.
Pahump>> Do you have any idea how ignorant that answer is? Imagine someone in your family went nuts and decided to kill people, and everyone else in your family had to live with that stigma, but all the rest of the world only thought "Gee, their family sure is screwed up! Bunch of psychotic killers, they are . . . "
That's the same sort of logic you're using when you make dumb@ss statements like that.

Islam refutes evoultion. The Quran states that God directly created man (Adam). He also created Eve. From them the human race expanded and the entire population of this world is the offsrping of that pair which was directly made by god....as humans and not apes.

Good question, I can't be sure but have you read any James Redfield books. Look for one called the Celistine Vision. It talks about this subject matter in a broad sense. I highly reccomend it. You can just type James redfield in your search browser and find his main webpage....Good Luck and.....Peace
