I wanna be a vehicle mechanic.
What branch should i join, Army or Air Force?

These are reasons why i wanna join:
*Serve my country
*Get mechanic skills for my career in the civilian world.
*Get dicipline since i'm extremely shy and don't really have friends cause i'm too imbarrassed to talk.
*College, GI Bill.
*Become physically fit and buff.
*Travel
*Adventure
*Have friends
*Become a Man (I'm 17 years old)

Which branch fits me the most?

My son joined the Army about 1 -1/2 years ago, he wasn't impressed right off, but now he has a lot of oppurtunities he wouldn't have had staying home and being another Joe. He can't talk a whole lot about his duties right now, but on the side he says he is loving his softball team, training in different fighting techniques, and education oppurtunities. He just left from leave and was in great shape and good spirits. I can see a major improvement in his physique, state of mind, especially his confidence. Did I mention the bonus? He seems much more in control of himself and his destiny, good luck to you and the path you choose.

The Army, by size, has the most vehicles, then the Marines. The majority of the mechanics in the AF (aircraft) and Navy (ship/boat) do not work on vehicles. Keep this in mind as you make your choice.

Your secondary wants: travel, college money, fitness, etc. are relatively equal across the services.

My experience is that the Air Force has the best quality of life for airmen, but unless you are a pilot, you are a second class contributor; the Navy has the best deployment security options, and the Marines are reknown for esprit, discipline and fitness/rigor (but at a price).

...and the Army goes rolling along.

Do they still have the Army Corps of Engineers? Find something that doesn't involve killing people, or you'll end up going from one extreme (being shy and unsocial) to another (being numb, depressed, and shell-shocked). By the way, once you get out into the real world (out of high school), being shy isn't such a stigma anymore. Adults aren't as hard on eachother as kids. Get a job somewhere and let yourself grow out in the real world for a year or two before you rush into the army. You may find out you like yourself this way better than you think.

The Air force has cooler vehicles than the Army (i.e. jets). Then again I'm sure an M1 is pretty cool too.

Right now I would go with the Air Force because you're less likely to be put in a forward area in a war zone.

Only the Army guarantees jobs to everyone, without an open contract. Join the Air Force, you may end up a hotel desk clerk.

the Air Force was good to me and taught me allot, i say step into the blue. i would be retiring this month if i had not become disabled. Good luck in what ever branch you decide it is very honorable to serve your country and protect your way of life.

the navy is generally accepted as having the best schools but if you want to get fit and disiplined go to the marines. also the marines are tighter as a unit and will make you a man. good luck

I'm not for sure, but it sounds like you are enlisting for the right reason. Good for you. No matter which one you choice you will do great, but I would say Army. Good Luck and God Bless

My husband who is a cryogentic tech. for the USMC, says you should join the air force. It will be easier to get the job you want.
