I know that I should go to church and read my bible, but I'm talking about anything else. Is there anything I should do other than believe in God and Jesus Christ? All my family are saved and everything, but we don't really go to church.

God loves everyone, saved, not saved, black white, jewish, Catholic. All you need to know is that you love God and if you allow him in your heart, he will love you back

Well first CONGRATULATIONS !!! That is so great.

Now, take it easy and don't start freaking out. When ppl are first saved they experience this really exciting feeling but that feeling doesn't last. That does not mean you're not really saved, that doesn't mean God abandoned you now. Its just natural to come down off the high. So be prepared.

Then, yes of course read your Bible but study it also. I found that a study Bible helped me immensely and can be bought fairly cheap at most Christian bookstores. You don't really need the expensive ones unless or until you decide to be some type of scholar. That can come later so don't worry. Just buy the cheaper one for now. Learn about Christ, the times He lived in, the times Paul and the apostles lived in and what they may have been experiencing. Learn about what is in cultural contexts and what is for everyone no matter what period of time they live in. An example is Paul telling women about their dress, hair, make-up, etc. or when he says that women shouldn't speak in church. Those are cultural things and really don't apply today.

The second most important thing is prayer. Pick a time of day when you can spend some quiet time just with God. Pick a place where you can be alone with Him. It doesn't have to be in your room or a church. And don't be all "holy" when you talk to Him. Imagine God as your dad (which He is) or as your best friend (which He is too). Talk to Him naturally. Tell him about your day, the problems you've been having, the questions you have about anything including Him. And if you get mad at Him for some reason, well tell Him that too. He's big enough to take it, I promise.

Learn to be comfortable in your role as a new Christian. Don't worry about making changes in your life this instant. Those things will come more naturally after you've learned how to be with God. So relax, be calm and at peace. You have just started a great and awesome new life.

Yeah.... find a church that teaches the Bible. Fellowship is good for you so that you grow in your walk as a Christian... and be encouraged. You need to go to church.

Reading the Bible is good too. I would start with the Gospel of John. Find a translation that you can understand. I would recommend a amplified Bible for you because the texts are expanded to help you understand what your reading in a fuller favor. It may not be exactly as accurate as some other translations but for a New Christian... it would be the best way to go.

Prayer is important. Think of the book of Acts.

A = Adoration That means start your prayer with praise and singing to draw yourself to God.

C = Confession Get yourself straight and admit to anything you have done wrong and ask God's forgiveness so that you can be done with it and have deal with anything that might hinder your relationship with the Lord.

T = Thanksgiving. Be thankful for the blessings and the gifts that God has given you.

S = Supplication That means to ask God for help with any needs that you may have or others may have.

Recommend getting in a habit of Scripture memory. While reading the Bible if you come across any verse that really seems to be speaking to you.. memorize it. Because that may be something that God is trying to tell you and it will be on your mind whenever you need that verse when you are away and doing whatever to help you deal with life's issues.

For me I memorize scriptures dealing with anger... because I was raised in an abusive home... I got a hot streak in me and I need to get my anger in check.

Pray and then look in your area for a non-denominational church that teaches the Bible verse by verse, not topical messages.

Please note that the above answer about "changing your life" is incorrect. You cannot change it. Christ will change you. Depend on him for everything!

When you get to the above mentioned church, ask if there is a new believers Bible study. If not, there are several good ones that you can do by mail. See Harvest Ministries - Greg Laurie, The Word for Today - Chuck Smith, Koinonia House - Chuck Missler, Hope for Today - David Hocking to name a few. Best wishes!

Good question. Now that you are saved, begin to develop your relationship with the Lord. Read your Bible, go to Church, Sunday school, Bible study. Learn as much as you can about God., and spread the word to others. Be a witness for the Lord. Father in the name Of Jesus please help this person in their faith help them grow and develop their relationship with you Amen.

Would be great to get to a good church and mix with active Christians.
Used to be I could post a web site for you to go to to find a church--but Yahoo calls that advertising and it is not allowed.
I have a list of good churches almost everywhere in the world (yep).

You do not HAVE to do more once saved-- but its great to do so!

Do what the Bible says.

"Why do you call Me, "Lord, Lord," and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46)

Only the house built on the foundation of obediance to God's Word stands, which calls for repentance, rejection of salvation by works, and trust in God's grace to save through His merciful provision.

Make sure that you remain "in the faith," which ALWAYS produces fruit as evidence of you salvation. If there is no fruit being produced in you life, there's really no reason to believe that you were ever genuinely saved. For understanding of what fruits are produced by salvation, listen to "True AND False Conversions." Go to http://livingwaters.com. Also, watch or listen to "Hells Best Kept Secret." Make sure you were not a victim of "modern evangelism," which says, "God loves everyone..." That is just not true. God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness, and like a just judge, as much as he loves the lawless, HE MUST punish them. The love of God is as the unflinching love that a judge has for the lawless. As much as he loves you, he hates the transgression of his laws all the more, and must punish criminals.

I hope to see you in heaven one day.

First off welcome home brother! i know the excitement the first time meeting the Lord Jesus. But be patient. Pray often. Now is the time with which the Lord will teach you His ways. Through the Bible and prayer He'll seal His precepts into your heart and mind and you'll begin to see yourself change. It doesn't happen over-night. It's a life long process. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

just start going to church a little more. actually, i am saved and haven't been to church in a long time. i keep saying i'm going to go, but it never gets around. just pray every night, read a little of your bible every couple of days, and just go on with your regular life.
