my brother had that problem when he was small. He could not even say his own name clearly, so it was very frustrating for him. We had to do exercises with him to help. Here are the ones for L and R.

little lulu likes to lick lollipops

the red rooster roosts around the red robin.

Pronounce the l's and r's as big as you can, exaggerating the movements of your mouth and focusing on making them sound bold. We sometimes had him stand in front of a mirror as he said the phrases to focus even more. We had to do 2 phrases at least 50 times daily each with a total of 10 sentences a week. You can see why I remember it 45 years later! Keep practicing, and you will be fine. If you are nervous, don't be, as we all make mistakes for one thing, and everyone has something they have trouble with for another.

Just so you know, what you have is like a type of a lisp. Instead of slurring your 'S's, its your 'L's.
Try speaking slower. It may help a bit. I know someone who has the samething. I would be right next to him and I only understand half the words he says. When I ask him to say it slower (Maybe a bit louder) I get it perfectly. Or, it may be caused by too much saliva(spit) in your mouth, which I get sometimes. Or, it could be what my friend has which is a bigger lower lip. That usually causes this type of slurs. This, I don't know anyway to prevent it other than surgery. But I hope you don't resort to that. Good Luck, bud.

I went through when I was younger. It was my insecurity and it was embaressing.

Do you get insecure when talking to others? This may be the problem... it's like having an anxiety attack. Just learn to feel completely calm and comfortable before getting into conversation, and eventually (hopefully) you get used to it. It worked for me.

Other ways that helped me get over it was singing to songs, rap music especially (for the harder lyrics to follow) and just perfect it until you know it by heart. Talking to close friends, getting in arguments (learning to say things quickly) and just talking a loud sometimes. They sound weird, but it really helped.

Best advice is to just calm down and think about what you are going to say before you say it. Not only will it sound right people will think you are wise. If all else fails a speech theripist can help

Relax. Be aware that none of us are perfect.

Practice speaking....look in the mirror while doing it. Smile when you do it.

When you need to talk to real people, use a relaxation technique comfortable to you. I imagine myself on an island in the Pacific.

practice your speech control ability. Don't let your mind go away when speaking. Focus on every word dat comes out of ur mouth.

when you talk to people, don't try to hurry up while speaking, even if you speak slow they wont go any where, make it a habit. You need to execute your speech like this:
Listen carefully > Think > Speak

Read newspaper loudly, it will help you in improving.

I'd have to say relax too. You could be a little more tired then you realise. Also you could try speaking a little slower.
