There are the obvious answers. Black footed ferrets and red wolves, etc. But I honestly think it has to be the Blue Whale. It's the largest creature on earth and we know nothing about it. The estimates are that between 100 and 1000 are still alive in the wild (IN THE ENTIRE FREAKIN' OCEAN!!). Their gestation period alone is 2 years. If you kill 50 in a year, you have just devastated the population.

I personally think that the tiger has the bleakest future, unfortunately. It's not just that tigers are getting poached, but their habitat and their prey species density is falling alarmingly. The asiatic lion has just a few hundred members but it is considered a sub-species of the African lions and hence is not listed as endangered by many. The snow leopard is another rare cat whose population is not known by anybody.

I think Bengal tigers, rhinos and whales are the most endangered species at the present. However if you count bugs there is a bug with part of its name zebra estimated to only have 45 surviving members on earth.

The California Condor is pretty close. At one point the total population was down to 22 individuals. A captive breeding program has brought that back up to about 200, some of which have been released back into the wild.
