Witchcraft can mean several things--there's a pagan religion called witchcraft (and some people use the word interchangeably with "Wicca," and others insist Wicca is a sub-category of only some witches; that's a semantics debate); that religion believes in Gods and Goddesses, and practices magic as part of its method of worship and daily lifestyle.

Some of that "magic" would probably be called "prayers" by people of other religions; in return, many witches refer to actions like transubstantiation, baptism, and confirmations as "spells" or "initiation rituals." More semantics debates.

There's the folklore practice of witchcraft, which may have connections to pre-Christian religions, but a lot of those are thin now. This includes esoteric herb lore, "psychic healing," aura reading, astral travel, and so on.

You might not believe these things work, but a lot of people do, and there are a number of unexplained cancer recoveries and lifesaving messages from far-off relatives documented. (There are also a great many failed attempts documented, so take that for what it's worth.)

And then there's "movie witchcraft," with the turning people to toads and flying on brooms and zapping with lightning. That part doesn't work.

As for love spells: there are ways to make a person seem more attractive and compelling. The traditional term for these is "glamours." Most historical "love spells" should more accurately be labeled "lust spells." They can work, but they don't wind up with a lifelong soul-mate.

Alright, now the ignorance pouring out of the answers being given for this question is creating enough stench to suffocate a skunk.

First of all, Wicca, is a religion based on natural balance. What I know about it kinda reminds me of native American spirituality. It is not evil and has nothing to do with SATAN. There is no Satan in the Wiccan faith.

Now there are Satanists, and that's a different matter altogether. They have nothing to do with Wicca or witches. Their rituals and practices also have nothing to do with the religious practices of the Wiccans.

Before you libel another faith and group of people, do a little research and have at least a speck of knowledge about what your talking.

BTW, for the record, I'm not Wiccan, nor am I Christian. I'm an Atheist, which means I've been accused of being many things I am not as well.

Seventeen sins are listed as the works of the flesh . . . Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Witchcraft by definition can be anything that deals with the occult such as horoscopes, tarot cards and palm reading. It has is defined within the context of cultures too.

Be assured that witchcraft is real. Remember that Jesus warned us that our war in not of this world but in those thing which we can not see. Guard your eyes and your thoughts take them captive so that the enemy has no foothold in your life.

I have dealt with it on many levels as a Pastor...exorcisms, etc...many will say there is a black and white magic, but I believe (biblically of course) that there are two sources of power...God and Satan. All magic (magik) comes from Satan.
