The 88-key synthesizer workstations such as Roland Fantom X-8, Yamaha Motif ES8 and Korg Triton Studio 88 have the hammer-weighted key feel of an acoustic piano. The sound depends on the samples that are used. Synthology Ivory software has sampled the Steinway D, Bosendorfer 290 and Yamaha C7 Grand Pianos. So that is the sound the keyboard produces. Other software or expansion boards give the sound of the Hammond B3. Yamaha Motif has built-in Hammond B3 sample. Roland Fantom uses SX-7 expansion board for Hammond B3.

Having a workstation gives the freedom of choosing a variety of piano, organ, harpsichord or other orchestral instruments and various electronic sounds. It all depends on the software and hardware expansion boards that are used and what samples are built into the workstation.

The keyboard workstations can be networked to a computer to increase the storage capacity. It is also possible to burn a CD from the computer.

So which is better, the Hammond B3 or the Piano? Why settle for either one when you can have both and much, much more.
