I was going 41 in a 30 and got pulled over and the cop gave me a ticket and the cop who gave me the ticket shot a puppy a week earlier and when I went to court the cop lost 3 of his 4 tickets, the 1 he didn't was mine. When the judge asked if I had anything to present to the court I told him I was going 11 miles an hour over and I was on the brakes and I don't think I was past the 30 MPH sign because I just crossed over from 40 to 30 zone. And the cop said he was over, and then I said "your honor, with all due respect, but that cop killed a little puppy dog because it ran up to him wagging his tail"....and then I said "he also lost 75% of the tickets he was suppose to have today at court so how credible and trustworthy can he be your honor". Well I ended up getting probabtion before judgement and kept me record clean for 6 months and the ticket was off my record.

I told him that I didn't smoke the tires on purpose. I have a cracked distributor cap, and everytime it rains, it cuts off on me at stops. So I have no choice but to put it in neutral when I stop and rev it up real high, and drop it into drive to keep the engine from dying. I said I'm going to fix it as soon as possible officer. The whole time I was talking, I was pumping the gas on my 67 Impala to flood it out, so when I cranked it up to leave, it took some cranking over to fire it up, and the black smoke rolled out the exhaust from flooding it, he let me go, true story.

I was driving a new 2000 Pontiac Bonnieville and pulling a trailer on a stretch of interstate. A car passed me then slowed down after moving into my lane. I had to pass him to avoid slowing down. After a bit he passed again and again slowed down after moving back into my lane. This happened a 3rd time, so when I passed him again I decided to put some distance between us. Speed limit was 65, I was at 87 when I saw him. He met me going the other way, flipped on the lights and turned around. I just pulled over and watched the damned fool go by that had caused my grief.
The trooper was professional, young and courteous in doing his job. He said that the judge was fair and if I had no outstanding tickets in the last 2 yrears I could get traffic school and no points loss (I was looking at potential wreckless driving, an attorney fee and 75% off my points).
I went to court, wearing a sport coat & tie (judges want you to take court seriously as it is serious business). He opened court by laying the ground rules. They were if you had no prior tickets in the last 2 yrs and was under 10 mph over you got automatic traffic school. If you were 10-15 over you paid the fine and went to traffic school. If you were16-20 over you paid teh fine. At 20+ mph over, shame on you. I was 22 mph over.
I watched the judge do his job; he was fair and administered the law equally to all before him and ahead of me. Then it was my turn. He asked me how I would plea. I was determined to simply speak the truth and said: "Your honor, I first want to appologize for wasting this honorable court's time and resources for my inattention to my driving. When the trooper flagged me I was not watching my speed, so if he said that I was 50 or 100 mph over the speed limit I would have to accept that. It is a new car, I'm still learning about it, it runs swell and the radio is killer."
"The trooper was polite, courteous, a real gentleman, and only doing his job. I must admit that I was miffed that I got a ticket. It was late in the day and it had been a hard day at that. I got home about 6PM still stewing over the ticket and turned on the TV; the news was on. The first article was an updated recall of Firestone tires, and as fate would have it, they included my car. So your honor, the officer made me slow down and pay attention to my driving, and God only knows in the process may have saved my and other innocent peoples lives by issueing me that ticket. So your honor I should really thank him, and I'll pay what ever this honorable court deems appropriate for my case."
The judge sat up iin his chair and said: "Well, I am pleased to hear the trooper was professional and courteous, just doing his job. I was personally responsible for his getting on the force, as his father was a trooper and a personal friend of mine. He is here in court if you would like to thank him personally" and he called him over. So I thanked him and repeated the same things to him. He said to the judge that I too was courteous adn did not make excuses to him for speeding.
The judge then looked at me; I knew he was going to lower the hammer as he said: "Mr. Floyd, how long has it been since you were in traffic school?" I said "So long ago sir that I can not remember but I think about 20 yrs back." He said: " I have to charge you the court fee but you go the the end of the hall and tell the clerk there I said to set you up for traffic school and please drive carefully from here on. Next case please clerk." No points were charged and only the court fee was assessed. I went to traffic school, the ticket never showed up on my driving record.
True story.
