Since humanity seems intent on absorbing most natural resources, we need to teach ourselves to be as efficient as possible. Change our habits - less driving, make more local stores, more telecommuting, more mass transit, less consuming, more recycling, etc.
We're going to use up the resources one way or another, but if we do it efficiently, we might have time to replenish some or find others.

I would then. Since it would be in my power to do so...oh, you mean you want details? I'd create an alternative fuel that not only is clean in the environment, it actually reverses the damage done to the ozone. I'd create a mega filter for the ocean to remove all the contaminants and oil and save the ocean life. So much to do so little time, I would hire trustworthy people to teach them about this and get a think tank going so if I were to leave this world, the work would continue.

Basically nothing.
I would sit and let humans decide what is best for them. The process of civilization started to touch the boundaries between nature and supernatural. It was okay from 'my' point of view when they invented wheel and telegraph, I have useful discussion with Graham Bell, Addison and others over here, they also think it was going too far when they cloned humans or attempted to do it. Fairly good, do it, go ahead. Its not upto 'me' to pick and choose or clear up your mess. 'My" basic rule is not to interfere after I have given basic guidelines in the scriptures, and no body can deny that I bestowed upon human mind the will to develop and analyze. They asked for it, they knew what it will cost. And for that matter I am hope full for humans have resilience. They would prevail and find alternates to fossil fuels and limit their greed, well, good luck guys, but don't expect me to do anything if you are heading towards 'the day after' scenario.
Nothing, I said, I would do. Just sit back and relax;)

By assuming that I could do something to save the Earth from further degradation you are assuming that there is something I could do to contribute to its degradation.
The Earth is currently, as always, undergoing changes that have nothing at all to do with human behavior.

1. Alternative energy
2. Alternative food sources (if the Japanese can survive on seaweed, why can't we?)
3. Colonize other celestial bodies to lessen our impact on this one
