Its very easy. I have stopped it many times :-)

But seriously,

The only way I think you can pull out of any addiction is .. by going through the following steps and not necessarily in the same order.

1. Accepting that you have an addiction
2. Being convinced that you want to get out of the addiction.
3. Try not running away from friends who smoke or being in an area where there is cigarette smoke. Instead, be there , be tempted, crave for it and then dont do it.
4. Dont believe anyone who says that you can give up smoking over a period of time by reducing it. I couldnt.
5. Dont try alternatives. I know someone who took up drinking as an alternative to smoking.. now he has 2 good addictions.
6. Challenge your will power. Do you really believe that you arent good enough to give up something as silly as smoking ? What do you think you are good for ?
7. Set a deadline and give up abruptly.

I just stopped - cold turkey isn't as bad as it's made out to be.
Change your lifestyle. Join a gym or stop going to bars where you may be tempted (at first). I just gave up 3 months ago. I found out that a coffee is still nice without a fag. Patches and stuff are just too expensive.

I quit by eating roasted salted sunflower seeds, in the shell. I did it for the hand to mouth habit. Later, in one of Robert Rodale's books, I read that sunflower seeds, especially the raw ones, have a chemical in them that is the same as one in tobacco and it helps curb the desire to smoke.

How about that?

Cold Turkey. If you really WANT to quit, you will. Once you make up your mind to do it, you will do it. So go do it!
