I hate those silly restaurant ads on a lot of the pages that say click here for a free meal. --like the ones from Chillies and such. I mean they are just a scam because you have to go through pages and pages of those offers and then you come to find out that you have to atleast agree to try one free offer- in which you have to give your credit card information to and then cancel it within a given time period. Do they think people are that gullible?? I know these type of ads have been on here for a long time, but when is enough..enough? Are they really that desperate for business and making money off those scams?

There's no such thing as a free lunch... only greedy people get sucked into scams...

Actually, they do make pretty good $. Everytime you click a check box, the sponsoring site is part of an affiliate program getting a "referral fee" from that check boxed company. They are making money by people just clicking on the little boxes. Even if you drop out midway through, they are still getting money.

That's what pop-up blockers and spamguard is for :)

I also, as I am sure you already do, use a spam-only email address that I use when ordering stuff online.

I, personally, think Yahoo has some of the best protection out there. I use their email and spam blocking tools. Google's is good too.

I think there should be a law against it. It's like most ads that even run on TV if you are not up real close you miss reading the fine print that say's you will pay more than what it is advertised for. Here is an example: the video professor say's all you have to pay is 6.95 for shipping and handling, but the catch is if you keep the video more than 30 day's they are going to charge your credit card 79.95. No where in the commercial does it say the video actually cost 79.95. I look at all them as annoying spam.

It's all in reading the fine print, although i agree with you it is perfectly legal, and yes there are plenty of people out there who are willing to give up their personal information in return for a free meal.

I have always thought that it is a scam. Generally, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I guess it is true.

It's their way of luring people into signing up for other offers which they have to wind up paying for. I also find them very annoying.
