About 6 weeks ago, my friends cat had a litter of kittens (6) and one died at birth. About 2 weeks later, they (our friends) say the mother cat sat at the kitten and smothered it to death. Then a week, they say it happend again. Just this week, two of their kittens died because they said that the mother cat picked up the kitten with her teeth and that caused the kitten to die. Today another one died because my friends husband said that he had just come out of the shower and had a towel wraped around him and their older male cat was chasing a kitten and he took his paw (the older cat) and punchered (spelling) his throat and it caused the kitten to die. This man was in trouble for animal cruelty before and now I think he is responsible for killing these kittens. I called the animal control officer and he won't be in the office till monday, but I left a message. Did I do the right thing especially since these people are some what our friends and we live right next door?

It just makes me feel so sick to my stomach to think about these kittens...our cat had kittens last July and we gave them a couple and they also died. Now, my husband and I have their last kitten and NOTHING is going to happen to her. I appreciate everyone reply's.

In December of 2005, he got turned in for breaking the legs of a kitten who was not even a year old and he went to court and was put on probation for two years and now has to pay court fines. I know because I am the one who turned him in. Don't ask me why I still talk to these people, my friends husband abuses her too and I just try to look out for her.

Oh yes, my dear child, you did a very good thing. I thank you for it. If this man is innocent, truth usually outs. As for male cats, unless they're un neutered Toms which regularly kill kittens that aren't their own, most neutered males don't. My gut tells me the same thing yours did. This neighbor of yours is killing the kittens. Shame on him and thank you again for calling animal control. Keep your eyes open.

Yes. Animal cruelty is something beyond my comprehension.

I could believe a cat smothering one of it's kittens (tends to happen to runts), and POSSIBLY one dying from being picked up. But 4 in 6 weeks? That's quite a lot. It could be all coincidental. Maybe you should confront the guy about it, if you are that concerned.

hhmm....I'm afraid to say that it doesn't seem that the parent cats are the culprits here. Calling in the animal welfare people os the right thing to do, as the cats obviously need a safe place at the moment. You've also done the right thing in adopting the remaining kitten. Don't blame yourself anymore. You're doing what's best for the cats and kitten.

Yes, you did the right thing. The guy did it. Just deny it till the end though. They don't have to know you did it.
P.S. If they say yall are the only ones that knew. Just say you told other people about it. I'd be afraid of the guy. Thats Creepy. How did you find out he's been in trouble for animal cruelty before?

Well, yea, I would think so. He might go after a human being next. Animal cruelty is one of main pet peeves!!!

That is too bad for those kittens. I wonder what they did with all of the dead kitties. So your neighbor sounds as if he is CRAZY! You should not let him or anyone else know that you called on him or that could mean trouble for you.
I think you did the right thing but keep that to yourself and keep your eye on this guy!

You might have problem with your neighbors now proving it will be the problem unless you witnessed him killing the kittens there is laws against animal cruelty they differ from state to state but if he is already on record for cruelty it will make the case against him easier some animals eat there new born as far as right and wrong if you have falsely accused him then it was wrong if he truly did it then you were right i hope you find peace with this.

I'm so proud of you! I hope he gets what he deserves! They should be BANNED from having any pets!! I wonder if there is a way to do that?? Goodluck to your friend too.. some people need to be banned from marriage/relationships as well

Seriously though, animal cruelty seems to be something that leads up to killing humans too. Especially if you think he's hurting his wife.. I would be careful about this man.. he sounds like an absolute psycho!!

the mother cat would not still be killing her kittens at this point, so i think u did right. more so knowing he'd been in trouble for this before! the mother only does this when born, when they "know' somethings wrong with the newborn! don't feel bad about this either, it was just the right thing to do.

take care

You did the right thing, it sounds like this man is killing the kittens on purpose. It seems just too fishy for him to have an excuse about the deaths of all of them
