the audience is anywhere and everywhere. whatever you do, someone will see you. unfortunately, we're also all critics. the trick is to keep performing and eventually someone will notice that you're good at what you do. they will tell their friends, who in turn will tell their own friends. thus, the audience grows. it only takes one person to be an audience. if you don't believe me, try doing something stupid (like trip over a crack in a sidewalk), and hope nobody saw you do it.
