She doesn't get just alvacado and yoguart - I add a bit of each to each meal of Eagle Pack Salmon/fish mixed with Nutro High protein. She just started on Revolution (instead of Frontline+) and they suggest a high protein diet with that med. She's not a very active lab so I don't want to give her just the high protein food.
I'd like to do the allergy testing but don't know if she should be tested for food allergies or environmental allergies - 2 different kinds of tests I'm told.

Where ever did you hear to feed your dog avacados? They are very toxic to dogs!

None, as far as I know! I've never heard anyone recommend that as a diet for a dog. If that is all you're feeding him, she's going to have some serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

I wouldn't bathe her more than once every six months - that definitely affects the skin. She could easily have allergies to food or grass. I'd try a canned food like Nutro Lamb & Rice. It has no "by products" unlike the high-priced Eukanuba. Many dogs (and some humans) are allergic to wheat and the preservatives in dry foods. I'd keep her inside on a tile or wood floor as much as possible and go for leash walks in the street - see if that helps. If you can afford it, take her to an allergy specialist. My friend has Australian shepherds - she got a complete profile from the allergist showing exactly what her dog was allergic to. It turned out to be so many things that she had to be put to sleep. (The poor dog was chewing herself raw 24/7.) Good luck!

I have heard that sweet potatoes and rice are good for dogs with allergies.

My lab mix has them pretty bad, it caused her to lose hair and get all red and itchy.

My vet told us to switch her food. We started with Prescription Diet Z-Diet which is completely allergy-free but that is pretty expensive so we switched to Purina One Sensitive Systems which is salmon-based, rather than beef or chicken.

This has done wonders for her.
