The idea behind crystals is that the human body is made up of every element on earth and each of those elements has a vibration or power. When you want to strengthen a system you bring more of a beneficial element into your own personal energy.
Take diamonds for example. Diamonds and humans are both carbon based, so the idea is that wearing a diamond would be a general strengthener.
Some of them are for luck, mental clarity, to heal a particular ailment. Some are not beneficial - like pearls are said to make a person cry if worn continuously for too long.

Hello Renee.Crystals provide more than good luck.The use of crystals dates back to nearly the begining of time.The benefits are still widely known...just not so much on YA. (A few have it right!).
Crystals are formed in the earth from various gases and elements and possess various energies that range in frequency.Color is energy.Crystals and gem stones possess certain energies that are perceived by colors and they can assist the corresponding colored chakra to function at it's best.
Crystals and gem stones possess GOD'S energy as thus will hold a higher energetic vibration that the wearer will match...it's called resonance and that's how healing takes place within the eteric body and brought down into the physical.
You can buy Crystal pendants for $10.Make sure you hold any crystal/gem stone in your left hand before purchasing to make sure you can feel it's energy.Then take it home and cleanse it in the sun/moonlight for 2 days or so.Other methods are soaking in sea water, using sage or mantras but some gem stones can't handle some of those methods.
I've been using various gem stones and Crystals for years so I pass this info along in hopes to educate someone else.There are many, many books on the marketplace(any decent book store will have many to choose from)but I really like "Crystal Therapy" by Doreen Virtue and Judith Lukomski.It contains brief desciptions, charts and pics.

in the earlier days it was intented to bring about luck and joy. crystal were cool and they had a good effect when worn on the body(i mean the acupuncture effect). but nowadays, it has become a fashion and people dont believe that by wearing it they will get luck. for them it is just a fashion.

Crystals vibrate at certain frequencies that are thought to have effect with people. Different crystals are meant for different things. Regular quartz crystals are for general energy. Rose quartz, for love or relationship, amethyst crystal is supposed to have healing properties. Etc

Wearing Crystals is a personal choice thing. It may mean that they believe in witches and psychics so they wear crystals to keep them safe. I got a crystal ball, unfortunatly I don't get much time to use it.

Cyrstals are pretty to look at. Some wear it as accessories - no oter meaning, However, some of the Chinese who believe in feng shui believe that different types of crystals bring different types of 'luck' eg, marriage, career, health etc. There are even crystals for different age groups. =)
