Saw it, yes. Did she enjoy putting them down? No. You have to be realistic. No one can afford to keep every unwanted dog, and she was doing a lot more than most people to help them! I've seen statistics that say as many as 5 million unwanted dogs are destroyed every year in the U.S. - including many who might have made someone a good pet. County shelters are so crowded that dogs sometimes have to be killed in as little as six days to make room for te new arrivals. Dogs with severe temperament or behavior problems will never find a home. Even the no-kill shelters often stay that way by TURNING AWAY dogs that won't be able to be adopted and dumping the problem back onto the county shelters.

If people gave a little more thought to what goes into owning and breeding a dog, there would be a lot fewer dogs destroyed.

If this is the documentary by SUE STERNBURG... It is AWESOME... you have to remember... these are not owned dogs... UNFORTUNATELY there are alot more homeless dogs out there than there are good owners... It is a sad reality that stray dogs MUST be euthanized! Ms Sternberg's position is to "test" the dogs for temperament and NOT euth for space but bad temperament. She is a VERY respected professional in her field and has created a spectacular test to be administer to shelter dogs to assess behavior issues.
Look at it this way ... Family adopts a lab from a shelter who does not TEST... after all "LABS are great dogs!????" New owners have friends over with a child who loves dogs... Child HUGS dog (by the way...dogs don't always love being hugged) DOG bites child... new owners SUED... Shelter sued... Child scared of dogs...dog is euthanized... family never adopts a shelter dog again... family tells all their friends (who in turn are leery of adopting a shelter dog)...EVERYONE LOSES...
OR... two dogs on death row... one must go down to make space a very sweet husky has been there for 3 weeks and a cocker spaniel that tends to growl when you mess with his food bowl has been there for 2 weeks... WHO GOES? (remember ...there are NO CHILDLESS homes... are you willing to risk the ABOVE scenario?)

Ya well, NEWS FLASH! The hardcore animal rights people generally do not love animals!

HSUS doesn't even have a shelter, they just raise funds to pass laws removing our rights to have animals. There are legitimate rescues who refuse to deal with them. The only help they usually offer are to send the mobile kill unit. They are currently under investigation for their misuse of Katrina funds.

Peta kills almost all the animals they 'rescue', even after promising unsuspecting owners they will be rehomed.

HSUS, Peta, IDA, DDAL etc. They are all the same and their ultimate goal is to end all animal ownership, incuding 'Fifi' on your couch.
