It means you don't "deserve" anything, it doesn't just come to you. You have to work for it.

People aren't going to just give you what you think you need. You need to make them give it to you, and that will involve a conversation; and therefore a negotiation.

If you want a job, you apply; the interview is your negotiation. The boss wants you to do things and you want to get paid for it. In fact any deal is a negotiation. You want milk; so you pay the store for it. The price changes and if it gets too high then you go to another store. If the milk is on sale, or cheaper, then more people come to that store to buy the milk.

Your parents gave you what you deserved to grow up and become an adult, but you had to negotiate a few things. Like what chores you did, when you had to go to bed, and how much of an allowance you got. If anyone was going to give you what you deserve they would, but even with that you still had to occasionally ask them for stuff that you thought you deserved.

Even though you might deserve something, it doesn't mean you'll get it. You have to struggle to get what you deserve. Things are not just going to fall in your lap.

It is simple. No one gets what one deserves as what one deserves is vague or abstract. So, one gets more or less what one negotiates ie., what one asks for in a convincing way.

i think he means that you get what u put in or what you work for
that you shouldn't say i deserve for this to happen or to get this thing but to make a plan to get what you feel you deserve.

When I was in boot camp I was told to keep my *** down or it would get shot off. Good advise.

It means you don't get what you should... but what you can talk someone into giving... for instance... you are nice to someone and help them out when they are in dire need..... you don't get the acknowledgement you should..... then when you need something they tell you to f*ck off.... you did not get what you deserve

However... you tell them they should help you because you helped them... give them a guilt trip, etc... and then they help you... you negotiated
