I'm a three time breeder, and I currently own a am. staff/am.pitt
dual registered dog. He's great with my children and strangers, with dogs. I think it comes down to how the dog is raised. For example if you never take your dog around strange people from the time it's a puppy your more likely to have a incident later on. Myself I've socialized my dog as much as possible and I think in part that is why he's so good with people he don't know. I also have seen my dog bark at and chase off a grown man who walked threw my back yard gate, clearly it was to protect his family. I believe the best guard dogs are family dogs, being dogs the interact with family members and friends.

Any dog can turn on anyone at any time, most don't unless of course, they've had an abusive life or whatever. But you have to consider the point of view of the people who are cautious and/or scared of dogs whether it is a pitbull, doberman, or a freakin' poodle:
Imagine that you are doing an activity that you do all the time, for instance, driving a car, and for no apparent reason at all, you get slammed into by a drunk driver and it kills your child/husband/wife/sibling and the drunk survives. Now, you will either:
1) hate that person for what they did to you/your family
2) be very cautious about other people on the road
3) make a huge fuss about drunk drivers and slander them and declare that they be sentenced to death
or you could do all three.
The point being, whether it is someone who has either been attacked by a dog, had someone they loved attacked, or even owned a dog who attacked someone, the feelings of anger, weariness, and frustration are the same. People have a right to feel safe, and an even bigger right to voice it to whoever will listen.

Pit Bulls were bred for fighting fighting in pits. Dobermans were bred for protection. Both types of dogs needed to have some ability to be aggressive to do the jobs they were bred for. While with proper training they can be excellent pets, one has to be careful about selection & training. These are powerful dogs with some breeding towards aggressive tendency. Rarely do you have a truly crazy dog that attacks unprovoked, but a dog that is startled or put in a defensive position may attack at a time when a lot of people might not recognize the reason. That's one reason why these are not the most recommended dogs for those with young children (but of course, there are exceptions to that as well & some of them are great with children).

Most of the time it isn't the dogs fault. Breeds are always getting a bad wrap for a bad move that ONE dog happened to make. I work at a kennel and I am around dogs for close to 9hrs a day. I see all kinds of a breeds , and 9 out of 10 times the dogs that come in that are aggressive and cause fights are dogs where the owner mistreats them at home, trains them to fight, trains them to be over protective or the owner just doesn't know how to treat the dog in the first place and shouldn't have one.

I have nothing against pit bulls personally. I think the majority of the bad pits have been bred and brought up to be this way. Any dog can attack. It depends much on how it is raised. I would rather be bit by a Chihuahua tho than a big dog like a pit bull.

Due to ignorance, and the media's false portrayal of this breed, people get hysterical over pit bull attack stories. Pit bulls are the ONLY breed being reported in the news. You don't see black labs or chow chows making the news when these breeds attack people. If you did, then people would get all hysterical over chow chows and black labs. ALL DOGS BITE. Where was the news when my friend got attacked by someone's black labrador? It's very unfair to pit bulls to be singled out like this when ALL breeds have been known to bite people. I proudly own 5 adorable pit bulls, couldn't ask for a better breed of canine.

Im a pitbull breeder myself. I currently have 6 pitbulls, and not one of them has attacked me. This is my second kennel. On my last one i had 9 pitbulls. Its how you treat them. If u do not feed them or u hit them and beat them then they will attack. But it's not neccesarily the pitbulls only. I have found that most of the attacks that have been reported have been from German Shepards. If u show them love then they will love u back, and if u mistreat them then they will act aggressive.

certain. I agree that an animal is fullyyt almost as good as its proprietor. The pitbull is widespread to be a loving dogs, fantastically with little ones. the area is, even as they do chunk that's way worse than a classic dogs's chunk because of their powerful locking jaws. this can provide them a nasty popularity alongside with the undeniable actuality that such an excellent style of people choose to reproduce them to strive against and be violent. all of us is ignorant and purely listen what they need to hearken to. in the adventure that they knew the full tale those animals doesn't have one of those terrible popularity.

I was told many of times that Pits and Dovermans are smart, and get smart to the point that there skull cant hold the developing brain and creates pressure on the brain which makes the dog crazy with pain.. Makes sense but i dont know how much of it is true

I think it's terrible that people would think a specific breed of dog to be violent. It all depends on how the dog was raised. Owners who treat their dog with love and respect and use appropriate methods of discipline will not have this problem.
