od light blinking on and off. runs fine just doesnt shift when it is supose to. ive tried a soft pedal and a heavy pedal. no difference. it wont shift out of first unless i let off the gas.

depends if the trans is a 4r44e or 5r55. 4r44 tranys have a vacume modulator on the pass side rear and can go bad. you can tell by pulling off the vac hose and check for fluid, if fluid is found, replace the modulator. 1 bolt. ther will be a pin that must be re installed with the modulator. do not loose!!!special order part only!!! if 5r55 trans main control valve bodies have been known to blow out from the seperator plate. unless you have a weekend of time on you hads and a ton of patience and a trans build manual, take to a shop.

I had a similar problem with a different Ford model and it turned out that the transmission was dying. One day it just wouldn't even shift out of first gear.
If it's just the light that bugging you, its most likely a short in the wiring. You can either go in and repair it. My buddy had a similar problem with his truck and he just decided to disable the light.

Time to have codes read and tranny pulled and rebuilt.
