I think joining the Few The Proud is a great honor. I spent 15 Years and Held the Rank of Ssgt. I was in the Aviation field and visited many many countries. If you join the Marines as a Officer remember you are joining the few the proud. They don't call it the Few for nothing. Out of an average of 100 men in a beginning Boot camp Platoon there will be approx 60 to 65 that make it. Once you have earned that Eagle Globe and Anchor you are a brother for life. Doesn't matter if you spend 3 yrs or 30 yrs because the day you receive that Honorable Discharge you are automatically put in the chapter and Title of once a Marine always a Marine.
I think if you know your calling is to be a Marine Officer then you should do it but remember 1 thing. Your standing in front of a group of men that they made you the Officer in charge of. Say the electric shop of a aviation squadron. And your looking at the ranks on the collars of your men. Please do not ever feel that your better than even the youngest PFC in that group because when it comes right down to it, he holds the same title as you do MARINE and one more thing, its not the insignia on the shoulder or collar that makes the man its the respect he earns from his men. So Good Luck and Semper Fi. And if you want to email me and i'll try to answer any other questions.

If you want to be an officer, college first. The Corps is tuff. You will spend most of your time away from home. I did 6 years , and loved it, but it's not for everybody

Don't become an officer. Enlisted Marines dont respect fresh out of college officers. what you wanna do is serve about 4 years as a enlisted Marine and then do MECEP. Officer world involves too much politics for me to do MECEP.

If you are just in the feel for joining because they look bad @$$ in their sharp uniforms and crew hair cuts; think again!! That look of elite, elegance and rigid respectability is practically born out of sweat, abuse and un-necessary brain washing. Mind you after much training if you weren't squared away before then certainly soon after a little Marine training you'll have all your manners in order. I am not discouraging your desires, however if you are by no means trying to make a difference and just wanting to join because of a look or status just forget it.
