I'm 29 years old and I am desperately wanting to quit smoking. I have tried everthing from gum, the patch, the inhaler, stopping cold turkey, and even hypnotisim. I just can't stop. I have two young children that desperately want me to quit and I want to for them and for myself. To make matters worse I have had bad asthma since I was a small child.

Please someone help me!

Set a date to stop then a week prior to stopping get a coffee can and fill it about 1/4 of the way with water.. everytime you smoke a cigarette put the butt into the can and place the lid back on..
When the day of stopping comes along if you still have cigs left put them into the can as well...
From that time on when ever the urge strikes you to smoke go to the can take the lid off and take in a deep breath of the smell .. this is a discusting smell and remind yourself this is what is in your clothes, hair and mouth (breath) but most importantly it is in your babies clothes, hair and mouth .. even if you dont smoke around them you carry the smoke and nicotine in your clothing, hair, skin and lips so unless you take a shower between cigs you are transferring this to your babies.. heartbreaking I know but you can do it, I did.. Willpower and determination are the best tools you could have.. Good Luck!

I used lot's of gum, mints, pocket listerine, anything to keep in your mouth. Chew a straw, toothpich whatever. It's also good to use the mints cause you'll start to hate the taste. The first month is hard, so you have to keep strong will power and don't be tempted. Don't stop cold turkey, do it progressively, but set yourself a definite goal and make a calender. It worked great.

I got pregnant with my first daughter......if that's not an option...... You could try a 12 step program philosophy . You need to find something that will fill the void that smoking obviously does for you . Addiction is a spiritual disease . Try therapy , embrace yourself , go to the gym . Google the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous .............try turning your will over to a higher power .

Same way I quit everything else, One Day At A Time, 12 step programs work for all kinds of nasty habits. Good Luck.

Well at least you're determined thats one step to achieving your goal...what you could do is have your kids hide your cigarettes or something! tell your kids that no matter what happens they will not give them to you....the only time they can give it to you is when you ask them three times in one day...so you have like 3 chances to tolerate the urge to smoke right?? And think about the kids dude coz
what will happen to them if something happened to you right?? if I we're you i'd just drink haha...by the way im only 15

Exercising is a great start to stopping this bad habit. Try getting involved in a certain sport that you enjoy. Maybe playing that sport will help you get your mind off the temptation.

I started running and exercising and eventually i realized that if i wanted to do good running and breathing, I had to quit smoking because i could honestly feel the effects of a single cigarette in my lungs if i smoked one and I wanted to improve my lungs and condition

I tried them all too, Zyban, the patch, gum, you name it, nothing worked. Until I had to go to the hospital because of heart attack, do to stress and 15 years of smoking.... I'm 29 right now. 29!!!! I quit the second my son came to my bedside while I was in the ICU and said "Daddy please don't die." QUIT MAKING EXCUSES YOU CAN QUIT!!! OR YOU CAN DIE!!!!
