Buddhists believe that they are reincarnated, in conjunction with the laws of Karma and Dharma.
They also believe that this cycle of death and rebirth can be broken by becoming enlightened. This is commonly referred to as reaching "Nirvana".
Apparently there is another level of existence even "higher" than Nirvana. It's the "source". Becoming one with god as I understand it.
It can only be attained by returning to earth from Nirvana by choice and helping the people on earth to reach Nirvana.
The significance of leaving Nirvana is that is a place of complete happiness, pure joy, the happiest you can possibly feel.
Hence, most people will not leave Nirvana once they are there.

buddhists belive that you are reincarnated until you reach a state of nervana, which is when you no longer are attached to this world. I think they belive in a paradise as well when you attain nervana.

They join up with the wholeness that is brahman and their consciousness (atman) is reborn until they learn enlightenment. Then they can rejoin if they want, but they keep their individuality.
