Does it matter if you believe, not believe, or partially believe? If you don't believe, then you would care. If you are a believer at heart, then it doesn't matter. Faith doesn't have to be based on 100% fact. It's what you decide to believe. For this case, if you are a believer, then you have plenty of people supporting for your belief/faith. If you are not, then you have plenty of people supporting for your ideas, too.

What a strange dichotomy in your question! Fiction as a literary form is not the only option besides "fact." The Bible is poetry, speculation and legend. There is much mythology -- stories that were made up to illustrate a truth that the various communities involved in its making valued and wanted to pass down to future generations. It is as rich a document as any other cultural treasure from the distant past. It should never be seen in such simple terms. Just a suggestion, of course...

(Excuse the length of this post, I edited several times to reduce the length).

It may not be fiction, but it is imaginary. We don't perceive what is true about the Bible because our minds are subject to the imperfections of mortal life.

On the other hand, this might be true of any number of things. If we had divine insight, any number of things would be just as astounding and spiritual as a book written for human beings.

As soon as you ask "Is the Bible fact" there are a number of troubling questions. Did Jesus live? I think so. But to many people this is identical to saying that God lived. So you must then ask "Is Jesus God?" Then skeptics will say the Bible is fact if you admit that he wasn't God. Believers will say the Bible is fact if you admit that he was. So there's a big dilemma.

the bible is mostly parables, or stories to make a point. i don't believe it is all fact, mostly because things were written down after the fact, often after passed on orallythrough other people. I also think it has been translated so many times, that there is nothing literal about it anymore. So really, it is just a book of stories... fiction

Does not contain all knowledge on spiritual matters. Has been translated many times and in many languages. The Bible itself speaks of 16 other books not in the Bible. It does not mean there is no truth but even in the Book of Revelation, which speaks of end time events, it mentions an angel bringing the gospel to the earth. If we had it all, why does an angel need to bring it?
Rev. 14: 6
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Check out Mormon.org and learn about a different church from any you've heard about before.

Well… I like to put it as:

Stories are told and stories are re-told, and then stories are written down and put into a book by someone that has no freakin’ idea what the real story was.

Remember the game in kindergarten… sit in a circle.. One kid tells the kid next to them a story… it goes around in a circle and the last kid has to say the story… how much was true in the end… NOT A HE** OF A LOT!

Just like the bible… the Koran… the well you get the idea. They are all the same stories just written down by different kids!

It’s also SO fiction…. I caught a fish ‘this’ big. – and I don’t mean Jonah’s Whale!

All fact, since it's God's Word, but you have to know what is being asserted! If it says somewhere the sun rose, it's not saying the sun is going around the earth. Going further, what Genesis says isn't always meant literally as we might interpret it today. That's not to say it is fiction with truth mixed in - rather it is true in what it is claiming, but in the older books (e.g. the Pentatuch) especially it can be difficult to know what is being said.

Also, claims of contradictions in scripture are often easily resolved with merely a little thought.

IMHO, the Bible is a really nice collection of stories and not to be taken literally. After all, the Bible was written at various times for various people which is why I do believe it contains contradictions unlike most people.

I think the bible is true but that a few parts were translated incorrectly. Many of the words used in the bible days could be interpreted in several ways and the interpreters did the best they could but a few mistakes were made. They were only human.

Story book. There is not 1 single book in the whole world that is 100% true, now come on everyone stretches the truth and lies a little to make things sound better, even autobiography's.
