No, it's a bacterial infection. Bacteria generally thrive better in warm, moist conditions, so the Summer would actually seem like a more likely time to cathc it... :-/

No, Strept throat is caused by a gram negative bacteria called streptococcus pyogenes. You naturally carry this type of bacteria in the back of your throat. When the bacteria rapidly reproduces you test positive for strept throat. Left untreated, you can end up with some serious complications and/or heart disease. Your doctor should administer a prescription of penicillin (if you are not allergic) which should destroy the cell walls of the bacteria and cease it from reproducing. It is imperative that you continue to take all of the medication until finished even when you start to feel better to keep the bacteria to a minimum to avoid another outbreak. Best of Luck!

no you can get strep at anytime. It is not a infection that is dormat at certain times of the year. You can catch it at anytime of the year and over and over. so wash all the surfaces in you house that you have been in contact with. You will be contagious for up to 24 hours after you start your antibiotic and anyone who has been in close contact with you should see their dr if they develope a sore throat
