When Christians eat out or shop on Sundays, it prevents employees of the restaurants and stores they visit from going to church. Why don't Christian ministers speak out against this more readily? I want to go to church, and I can't. Even if I found another job, someone would have to take my place, and they would be in the same predicament as I am.

This is the only commandment that Jesus doesn't reiterate in the New Testament. The truth of the matter is, the early church didn't get a day off to be able to worship together, either. The important thing for you is to have a day of rest where you can focus on God and read the Word and worship. If that is a different day of the week, go for it. If it means a new job, better yet. Worship is meant to be done with a community of believers. You cant say what that will mean for the person who would replace you at this job - that is a cheap excuse to decline corporate worship if that is what you are being called to.

I AGREE!I believe just as you do.

I do not patronize any business on the Lord's Day. I also teach my children the same.
I don't speak out about it, because I believe the Holy Spirit should do the convicting. Many Conservative churches still do,
but, I wish more Pastors would. I believe more people would invite others for dinner and fellowship more as well...

Ok, that is very limited thinking. There is such a thing as split-shifts and multiple services, you know.

Secondly, I have seen preachers speak out against putting work before church attendance. Maybe you need to go to a more conservative church. I myself have quit several jobs because they wouldn't let me go to church- but I never lacked for jobs, God always gave me another right away.

this question is going to always be debatable... why because the bible teaches us as Christians not to work on Sundays... that it is the Sabbath and to keep it as such... however... not everyone in terms of speaking will understand that... Jesus was accused of healing on the Sabbath and he said back tot he Pharisees

" What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

So in other words... will them world shut down on Sundays? sadly no... I can understand what you mean, but the world doesn't it.

Because the things you mention are forms of the Old Covenant where people sought to be justified in God's sight by obeying ceremonial laws. Now that Jesus has come, all of the ceremonial laws have been fulfilled and we are under grace not law.

That doesn't mean that the moral laws have been abolished. It's still a sin to lie, steal, murder, etc.

But laws like the Sabbath laws were pointing to the coming Messiah. Here's a couple of passages to show you that I'm not just operating from what I personally think.

Colossians 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. 16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

Jesus said "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17

This is assuming that they go to church. Not to sound petulant, but could you take in a Saturday service or an early morning service?

Good point.

But if you really want to go to church, you can go. God will make a way for that. You have to trust Him that He will.

But yes, sometimes I think I should not shop or eat out on Sundays. Thanks for bringing that up.
