You would have of course called the police as soon as you noticed your wallet missing. You would have then called to the bank and cancelled your bank card and also notified them of the missing checks to voild that series.

So once that is done, you notify the bank about the theft again, and they will need a copy of the police report. In that they will try and help find who got and was using your card and checks, many business have cameras so it is possible they can see who did it.

Depending on your bank and your type of account many have protections for this. And anything taken after the bank was notified is normally always returned after the investigation

Contact your bank as soon as they open in the morning. Most banks open at 8 a.m. The other thing to do is to try not to panic or beat yourself over the head for what happened. What has happened, has happened, and you can not change the past. If your wallet was stolen as a result of carelessness on your part, then learn from your experience. If you have not done so already, try to talk to a caring friend who will listen. This can help in the healing process of a traumatic experience (having your money stolen is traumatic). Call your bank tonight to listen to any automated message to find out what time they open in the morning. Then try to get a good night's sleep after having set your alarm to get up early in the morning, and then contact your bank when they open. Good luck. Another thing to consider is to turn to God and pray for help and pray that the thieves be caught and apprehended by the police. You may not get your money back, but if they are caught, then others will be spared of their criminal activity.

Yes, what everyone else said was good advice. Cancel the card and get your account number changed - but don't close the account in case the checks were fraudulent and fake so you could get that straightened out without your bank getting a collection agency - it's better to be a customer somewhere than a former customer. Tell the bank straight what they were doing. Also, call the police and do tell them that your dad was using your account - if the checks were fraudulent and the bank comes after you, you have a smidgen of proof that it wasn't you, and that it was your dad depositing checks in there. Don't give him any of the money - keep it hostage until he gives you your stuff back and make sure that the checks clear before withdrawing the money or else your account might get a negative balance if the checks were fake.

Call your bank and report it stolen. When you are questioned make sure they know to look at the signatures so that you can prove you didn't make the purcheses. Most banks now a days have protection for theft of your card and checks.

Report it stolen and call the bank and all of the credit card companies. You should be insured for most of the loss.

Call your bank first! Then the police to file a formal report. I hope that your bank will back you up and not hold you liable for the charges. Good Luck.

Your need to file a police report and report it to the bank so they can flag your account and that will protect you if you don't then you will just be out that money. You will have to sign papers proving that you didn't sign those check and that is the only way you will be reimbursed for your loses. good luck

Call the police right away. They'll see if they can trace where the card was used at and if those places have video camera to catch the suspect. Don't call 911 - call the non-emergency number that's in the phone book.
