Currently Phil is playing better golf but in the long run Tiger is better

The question is all about time frame.
Career: Tiger Woods will be the best golfer ever.
2006: Phil Mickelson has more wins, more major wins, and tops the PGA Tour Money List.
World Rankings (2 year span): Tiger Woods is still number 1.
This week: Tiger finished much higher than Phil in the same tournament.
That is what is great about golf. There are so many ways to measure greatness!

Ouch, if I did not have any preconceived notions about either, then I would side with the big Mickelson. Tiger has played only two tournaments in the last couple months and has not won a major as recently as Phil. Phil won the PGA, won the Masters, and almost won the US Open. That is good enough for me to say that Phil is currently playing better golf then Tiger. Tiger owns Phil over the past decade though.

Since your question says "right now", I think everyone would agree it is Phil, it is hard not to. Even though he choked on 18 at Winged Foot, Tiger was watching it on TV. That said, I will agree with the rest of the answers about TIger but add that, in my opinion, not only is Tiger the best golfer of all time, when his career is over, he will go down as the best athlete of all time.

Right now Phil, but when Tiger gets his head straight, as he surely will, he will again be much better than Phil.

Tiger is still currently ranked #1. Phil is playing awfully good this year. In order for Tiger to keep his ranking he has to start playing better.

Tiger will always be better. Phil is an arrogant pissant who thinks that he is head and shoulders above the competition but whose arrogance prevents him from ever threatening Tiger.
