Hairballs will cause this but most of the time it will produce a hairball. If the kitten is just coughing then it could be something more serious. Cats just don't cough. I would take the cat to the vet as soon as possible

Hairballs can cause coughing. I would suggest you take the cat to the vet and get a professional opinion. If your cat is a indoor cat they now have indoor cat food which will cut down on the hairballs. I have tried it and it does make a difference.

It could be hairballs. But to make sure, take your kitten to the Vet, kittens are very sensitive, there may be other problems than hairballs. Hope I was able to help=^.^=

Coughing may mean your kitty has a cold you should take it to the vet. Kitten usually don't have hairballs cats do. Hairballs are cause by your cat grooming himself or herself and because there tongues are like sandpaper once on there tongues everything usually goes down their throat. If your cat was having a hairball it would acting like it wants to throw up. Please take your kitty to the vet!!!

Could have an URI (upper respritory infection) is she also sneezing and having yellow/green gunky stuff come from her eyes??? If she is vet visit is necessary. URI's can be deadly for kittens. I would still get her checked out by a vet...hairballs in kittens aren't very likely...

It could be hairballs but I know my friends cat coughs and wheezes like she has ashma or allergies or something. She is also really old, I think it is possible for cats to develop lung damage and disease just like us humans.

How long have you had your kitten?

If you got it recently it may be "kennel cough".

Read more about it in my source.

Good luck!
