The big news of the day is the foiled terrorist attack on New York. But as I read and hear more about it (especially on foreign TV stations and independant radio) it doesn't sound like much of a plot. The so-called terrorist had no money, no explosives, no knowledge of how to build bombs and actually thought blowing up a tunnel under the water would flood the city (uh, wouldn't the tunnel be what gets flooded and not the city? How does blowing up a tunnel flood the higher ground areas?). Some reports state that the FBI isn't really sure what tunnel these guys were targeting and maybe the "terrorists" weren't sure either.

I'm not saying these guys could not have become dangerous over time, and I don't think it's wrong to arrest them. But does this really need to be the top news story of the day? Should they be treating this like a full-on terror attack when these guys were nowhere near actually being able to do anything?

I was wondering the exact same thing. How do we know if it was an actual 'plot' and not just a few idiots just being stupid? What would they be charged with? Having bad thoughts?

It would have been wiser for the FBI to at least wait until the 'terrorists' had an actual plan and started acting on it. THAT would be headline news.

Law enforcement personel who have been working hard on this foiled attack deserve some recognition for their effort. As well with publicity comes pressure and with added pressure the potentional for a mistake increases. This inturn might lead to the disruption of another terrorist plot. It is a fine line between planning a terrorist attack and actually committing a terrorist act. This line can be crossed quickly with little or no notice. It is a fine job the FBI and other feds are doing to prevent organizations who wish to launch terrorist attacks from actually aquiring the means to do so. GOOD WORK.

TIME did an article last week on how we have ton of groups in America that talk about blowing things up, but have no means to do it at all what-so-ever. Apparently, they're too incompitant to do anything...And whatever resources or connections they'd have would be thrwarted by the FBI. It sounds like maybe this is a similar case.

I think there are alot of fakes out there, but there are alot of real people that can be a threat. Granted, those who are 'incompitant' right now could very well be the 9/11 terrorsts of tomorrow. We can't be careful enough. Go FBI :]

If the terrorist had successfully taken out the train tunnel, then Yes, a large portion of Lower Manhattan would have flooded.
These Islamic idiots were looking at doing this in October or November. They were to begin gathering the explosives and comming up with the plans to make it happen. I'm glad the FBI got the bastards, now let's have a speedy trial and execute them!!

See your community physician, with the Messiah's new wellbeing care plans, that one is under operations/different. Or placed $20 in a liberal democrats campaign fund, say 10 Hail Pleosi's and 10 Our Harry Reids and The Reverend Wright will ask Obama to provide you your favor.

I agree with Ted above. The Govm'nt is pushing it so they have something to point to and say "We are doing something about the threat of terrorism" which they direly need especially with the mid-term elections coming up. Lots of analysts are saying hte republicans can lose the house.

It's getting so much attention because the government is trying to divert attention from what is really important, things that could get them in trouble.

The coverage basically makes it look like all the counter-terrorism efforts are working like they are designed to.
