US parents have baby in Canada how long does it take to get baby birth cert if so they all can return to USA?

My grandaughter was recently born in Canada her parents are both USA citizens all their lives. They were visiting friends and thinking about some day moving to Canada when the baby came early. They have not recieved a birth certificate yet. People have told me it takes up to a year to obtain one, how can they come back to US with the baby. Does it really take that long? Worried grandma in USA

It takes nothing like a year. That's just silly.

The parents need to go to the nearest US Embassy or Consulate in Canada and apply for a DS-240 Consular Report of Birth Abroad of an American Citizen, and a passport for the baby. If they have the baby's foreign birth record and their own proofs of US citizenship, they should get the Report of Birth in a few days and the passport in a week. The Report of Birth will be the baby's official US birth certificate for its whole life.

It might be that, because they are in Canada, returning to the US is simpler than returning from another foreign country. Maybe they don't even need a passport to bring the baby home.
Every embassy and consulate in Canada has a web site with contact and other information. They really should call, and find out what to do.

over the former couple of years i have realized that some human beings say, "I hate youngsters, so loud and stressful." How do you sense about children? i actually in my opinion believe that in case you hate children, you not in any respect were one. i discover a number of them beautiful and stunning. even if I gained't decide those who dislike them. i actually do hate children. :/ ....
