Who is paying the gas bill? Who is paying for the cleaning of the uniform?
Who would be the legal advisor representing this party should he hurt someone in the prusuit of justice?
Nothing is wrong with hiring a off duty police officer. What goes South is the uniform and the use of a taxpayer's public owned police cruiser.
At some point commor sense should kick in.

Yes, almost all police in GA ( and most other places) work off duty jobs ( ever see all of the county police setting on the side of the road at constuctioin sites) those officers at consturtion sites are working off duty, they are not really going to stop you and write you a ticket ( unless you are way over) but they are there to slow you down.
They work at grocery stores, even churches on Sunday to stop traffic.
In Atlanta for example, many work during the day at office buildings to stop traffic to let people out of thier parking lot.
Since you say he uses his car, he would normally be an officer who is allowed and given a take home car, ( not all police get to use a take home car)
These officers are normally hired though either an agency that does nothing but hire police officers for off duty work, or though often someone within the department that helps arrange off duty officers. ( a few officers arrange thier own off duty work at some gas stattions and other events)
Most of the officers you see at the Dome in Atlanta are actcually off duty.
The normal pay for an off duty officer will be around 30 to 50 dollars a hour, speical parties where there is drinking the officer may make as much as 100 dollars a hour.
On average an police officer makes more money each year on off duty work than on duty work.

We had a situation like that here, where a man actually got fired and sued big time for clocking in at one township and then going to work for another township at exactly the same times. He shouldn't be in his uniform performing duties for other businesses that hire him, or he may have just come from a shift at the PD. Anyhow, most police officers don't tell everyone where they work, because there are a lot of people who dislike cops for many different reasons.

A lot of officers do this kind of work on the side to make extra cash. You would have to check with the local force to be sure, but this is not uncommon.

I believe that it is.
You could call the local precinct and ask to be sure.
