No No No dont separate them it will only exacerbate the problem!! When I first adopted my second dog (she was about 6 years old) she did the same thing to my existing dog and the best way to deal with it is to let them play bowl switch if they want (you can't stop that every dog wants what another dog has its natural) however try using a squirt bottle and squirt the dog that is growling and say NO be nice or whatever phrase you prefer only make sure you use the same phase every time...keep doing this untill the dog understands what you mean and then reward them both with a treat or attention every time they eat without growling at eachother. Trust me it works when I first got the stray dog mentioned above she also growled at my cats when they stuck their head in the dish or at my other dog eating beside her but after disciplining her with the water bottle and teaching her not to growl she now lets the cats eat out of the dish with her and never growls at the other dog anymore!!

The easy answer is to separate the dogs when they are feed. The more difficult solution is to change the Chow's behavior but that will take some amount of time. Chow's are known to be very loyal to their owner and another dog could be seen as a threat to that loyalty. If possible feed them in different rooms.

They are both trying to be the dominant dog in the pack. That's actually normal for bringing a new dog into the house. Until they are used to each other, you should feed them at the same time but in separate places; if you have a baby-gate, use it to block off the kitchen and feed one in the kitchen and the other in the dining room or hall. Or put them in separate rooms. Once they work out their places in the pack, they'll stop this. But it will take them some time--- a couple of weeks, probably.

It is completely normal behaivor, but it should be nipped in the bud as soon as possible. If you have a large backyard, you could let one out while you feed the other and then swap. Otherwise, I would gate them off from each other and seperate them as much as possible when you feed them. The older dog is just trying to show dominance in any way he can. Siblings do the exact same thing. Just have patience.

nicely... that is an truly exciting arguement... Are u transferring faraway from the topic of Kobe now?? i am hoping the impersonators do an same... The questions they ask are pyschotic... i imagine u convey a strong factor yet dogs struggling with is truly inhumane and slaughter houses are fantastically gruesome too, yet atleast the slaughterhouses have a strong reason to exist. dogs struggling with is in simple terms yet differently to wager, yet on something's wellbeing and perchance that is existence. Meat (protein) is a significant area of our food regimen and we doesn't be the following on the on the spot if we hadn't been able to kill something and eat it interior the caveman days. dogs struggling with shall we do without and that i do agree that continually celebrities and athletes many times wreck out with issues (cough*Kobe*cough*) and that i wager that is to teach that they try to convey the hammer down on even celebrities so as that is perhaps why Michael Vick is being made one of those huge deal. i ask your self how Alpha Wolf will respond to his arch-rival not hating on Kobe.... good quesiton...

It is a NORMAL thing to do.. to fight over food. I see birds doing it all the time in my back yard.. It is a natural INSTINCT.. It has NOTHING TO DO with being jealous.. Actually, the only thing to do at this point in time is to feed them separately in different rooms.. so that one can not go to the other place while the OTHER dog is eating..... etc.....

Don't let them eat out the same bowl. Get two bowls and put them in different rooms or put one indoor and one outdoors then seperate the dogs before you put food in the bowl. Keep them apart until they've finished eating.

Feed them in different rooms for now. Later they should get along better and be able to eat side by side.

Well I have 4 dogs and they did fight until I took for bowls and seperated them. My black lab seems to want to fight still so I just stuck them all in diff rooms. Try that and see if it works.
