Everytime I come into contact with some teachers I have had in high school after I dropped out, they always have a very sad look towards me, why are they doing that? I am doing just fine.

People just don't believe that others can survive outside the system. I think it is a conditioned response designed to keep people in line frankly - but the emergence of homeschooling and natural medicine, etc. shows that people can live very well outside the system. People don't know how to act or are slow in changing gears or directions in their mental patterns. Show them how well you are doing by thriving, being successful and well mannered. Living well, they say, is the best revenge.

Peace!

PS - Wow, it seems that every other response really demonstrates my point. These people don't know anything about you and assume that you ruined your life for dropping out. I have been working for myself as a graphic designer from home for the last 10 years. Self taught, no college. In the 10 years before that I worked in corporate America, my education has never come up - not one person has ever called my old high school to verify that I graduated. Please!

That "you are a drop out so you must be a loser" is an unnecessary, self fulfilling prophecy, people! Not everyone excels in that environment.

How 'fine' are you doing? Are you making more than they are now? Maybe they feel sad b/c you're making more as a drop-out than they are after years of college. It can happen. If not, you can get your GED and still go to college. I would advise at least a GED. Go to a Technical College and get some kind of special training (computer technology, respiratory technician, machine tool technology, auto mechanics). It's not the end of the world. You don't want to risk being out of work due to lay-offs or closings. Get some training that you can do most anywhere that pays good wages.

You would probably be doing better had you stayed and graduated. Most jobs, at least in Canada, require at least grade 12. Teachers do care, ironically enough. Good to hear you're doing fine. I graduated from grade 13 in 1986 and it took me until now to be doing fine..I had to go back to college because I settled for retail for too long , now I am a geriatric nurse

They have every right to. They were willing to give you an education and a boost in life and you quit on them. You missed out on a lot of great experiences both learning and social. High school dropouts normally are no where near as successful as someone with a diploma.

In my opinion, it's because they are disappointed that you dropped out. You might be fine now, but what about the future? Have you thought about that? It's hard to get anywhere without a good education!!!

Teachers only want the best for the kids they teach. You may be doing fine financially, but they feel you will not ever reach your full potential without an education. They are right.

It doesn't matter which one you pick, the answer that jjc92787 gave is the best answer, period. You blew it. And if by "just fine" you mean living in your parents basement and playing XBox, then you really ought to get a life.

It is not you it is them. Maybe it is so tiring being a teacher and they think they have failed everybody. Do not worry about it, especially if you are doing fine.

Perhaps they saw some type of great potential in you and are sad that you didn't reach it....in their eyes....not yours. Next time you see one, ask them...they will probably give you an answer.
