If there was a neuclear war, would we be doomed, or be saved by our own actions and thinking, and screwing the president's decisions? Or, would we be killed in an instant and along with alot of other countries?

There is very little chance of a WWIII in the foreseeable future. Our old nemesis, the Soviet Union, doesn't exist anymore and no one else out there would ever dream of taking on the US in head to head combat. The only risk of nukes these days is from rogue states like N. Korea, Iran or terrorists. Even if those slimy dogs were successful in blowing up something, the reaction would not trigger WWIII. We are seeing amazing levels of cooperation right now between the great nuclear powers to keep peace in the world. Terrorism is the current threat to world peace, and Osama can't come up with a country to run that could declare WWIII.

It was estimated by the W.H.O. that an estimated 1 billion people will be killed instantly in the initial stages of a nuclear war. An additional 1.5 billion would die soon after from radiation poisoning, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. The Northern Hemisphere would be plunged into a state of prolonged agony and barbarity.

Carl Sagan estimated it would take as little as 100 kilotons of nuclear detonations to generate a nuclear winter, mostly from the fires that would be created. This would eventually spread to the southern hemisphere as all plant and animal life would eventually die out.

Global suicide and mutally assured destruction has been the basis of the MAD doctrine between the strategic powers for the last 60 years. It's kept us from a nuclear war.

My worry is the rogue states, rogue leaders and martyrs who may get their finger on the button. Once again, we are staring into the abyss of nuclear holocaust.

From what I understand, yes, we would more or less all be 'doomed'as you put it. The lucky ones would be smithereens as the rest will have to try and survive the aftermath.

I refuse to lay about thinking what will happen.. All I can say is you better be prepared to meet God at all times.
I placed it in his hands.
He holds the key.
I firmly believe that.

Not nuclear, but conventional. At present the U.S. is a vital target and would surly be involved. But it would most likely not be nuclear.
