Bible does not say it is 'ok'. It merely makes provision for it in followers of Christianity. Slaves obey your masters, masters treat your slaves well. It was a fact of life at the time of the Bible. However, when Christ said he wanted to bring 'freedom to the captive,' though he meant it spiritually, I believe the same went for physically. The big problem with the concept of slavery in th Americas is it was based solely on color of skin and not indentured servitude (for the most part.)

Because the Bible is a human witness, not something dictated by God. But the core of Christianity is a recognition of God's infinite love, and it took us stupid jackasses a really long time to figure out that love and slavery are incompatible. Although, to be fair, Christians were already speaking out against slavery in the fourth century (St Gregory of Nyssa), and all the Abolitionists in this country were inspired by Christian faith.

Mark Twain speaking about his mother's belief in slavery said: "She had never heard it assailed in any pulpit, but had heard it defended and sanctified in a thousand. As far as her experience went, the wise, the good, and the holy were unanimous in the belief that slavery was right, righteous, sacred, the peculiar pet of the Deity, and a condition which the slave himself ought to be daily and nightly thankful for."

The bible was written by men a long time ago when it was considered morally acceptable. It just proves that the bible is false and morals are relative to society. So no one should say that god gives people morals.

Do you mean in the Letters of Paul when he says slaves be obedient?
He also says that in Christ there is neither slave nor free, woman or man all are one.
And the "slave" in the New Testament Greek and Roman world was more like a hired hand than someone that was treated badly and oppressed.

At the time of that writing which was 3,000 years ago it was common practice.
That's not to imply that God agreed with it.
He laid down Laws of conduct when dealing with those slaves.
Besides that it is in the Old Testament and we are living under the dispensation of the New Testament.

I think slavery is acceptable if the slave is treated fairly, and with love.
After 7 years, they should be set free unless they desire to remain with their master (not owner).
Of course, this is all Old Testament, so not necessarily applicable today.
I think antislavery laws are a blessing to humankind.

Because you lack the understanding of ancient civilizations.
Indentured servitude was a common way to pay off debts owed. They would offer themselves as servants to those they owed a debt. They were not forced into against their wills like what was done in Africa.

It has always been immoral, even though it may have been legal. The Bible doesn't condone it, just like with divorce. God doesn't want to see it, but He knows that it happens.

Because we no longer model our lives and our government after an antiquated model that might not have even been the best way to do it two-to-three thousand years ago.
We have moved beyond that limitation, and we are better for it.
