Global warming is due to humans releasing excess CO2 into the atmosphere, which traps some addition energy from sunlight. The extra amount of energy trapped heats up the earth. The heating will continue until a hotter earth starts to radiate a balancing amount of energy back into space.

The important thing to remember is that over a very long period of time the exact same amount of energy that hits the earth every day is re-radiated back into space on average. If those two energy flows are not in exact balance then the Earth will either heat up or cool down. Right now the extra CO2 has thrown that balance off so the Earth is heating up.

As long as we keep adding more and more CO2 to the atmosphere that keeps throwing the heat balance off more and more. The farther off the balance gets the hotter the Earth will get to restore the balance.

We have enough fossil fuels that we could continue to burn them for something like between 300 and 500 more years, it is primarily coal that would last that long. If we where to do that the balance would get extremely out of whack and cause a really large amount of heating. So much that all the ice at the poles would melt, ocean levels would rise something like 300 feet, climates would change by a huge amount, many species would become extinct and life for people would be exceedingly miserable.

Even if we were to stop CO2 emissions tomorrow, the heat balance is pretty far off and so the earth will have have to heat up a fair amount to restore that balance. Part of the problem is that it takes a very long time for CO2 to come back out of the atmosphere and get reabsorbed into rocks and other places it is sequestered. It may take 100,000 years for CO2 levels to return to their pre 1850 levels. What that means is that the Earth is going to heat up some and will stay that way for a very long time.

Here is something to think about don't believe me check this stuff out...

1.Water(H2O) is the only element known to man to expand when it freezes every other element contracts when it freezes so that is the first fact. For example fill a milk jugg with water, now stick it in the freezer... come back later and it will have exploded from preassure of freezing water.

2.Icebergs are massive chunks of ice, only a few percent of the ice is above water, which means the rest of the ice is underwater.

3.The ice underwater because water expands when it freezes is displacing the liquid water. So when that iceberg melts all the ice under the water will contract and fill a smaller space, so the level of the water will be less now because the ice which was displacing the liquid water is unfrozen and now occupies a less amount of space.

4.Scientific models show that if all the ice on this planet melted we would see a 3" DROP in ocean levels NOT a rise but a DROP.

Now isn't that interesting.

Now for the greenhouse gasses.

1.Plants LOVE a carbon dioxide rich air supply.

2.The more carbon dioxide their is the faster they grow.

3.Plants use photosynthesis to get their food so they can grow.

4.When the plants sense a higher level of carbon dioxide they will make up for it by sucking up more and more and one of the products of photosynthesis is OXYGEN!!

5.So no matter how much CARBON DIOXIDE there is the plants will COMPENSATE and suck up more and grow faster and bigger. and the bigger the plant is the more OXYGEN it produces through photosynthesis

no you may say precisely what's going to ensue, yet there are some issues that are for particular. a sort of issues is that for particular is this planet can not sustain the variety of human beings at present residing right here. there'll in all probability be a super variety of starvation as properly as a super variety of suicide. additionally, i do no longer comprehend if it is going to shop the planet from international warming. that variety of relies upon on how some distance we push the planet. besides the fact that if we stopped putting greenhouse gases into the ambience suitable now and stopped scaling down wood, the planet could nonetheless proceed to heat an significant volume for it sluggish. besides the fact that if or no longer disaster could desire to be prevented whilst oil runs out is uncertain.

Why would it peak?

Theoretically, it could hit Venusian levels and just keep going.
