If your current stuff is 9 speed, then any of the Shimano 9 speed atb shifters will work. If you have a double chainring on the front, you will need to set the cable tension so that the shifter will think that the small chainring of the double is the smallest on a triple chainring and that the big chainring of a double is the middle one on a triple. The limit screw on the derailleur for "high" gear (which you shouldn't need to mess with) will keep the shifter from hitting what it thinks is the third chainring and throwing the chain off the large chainring.
