That is, if you're not getting some kind of sexual activity by the third date, you call it off. Anyone hold fast to that rule?

I do. If you like a girl and she likes you, the only reason she'll make you wait past three dates is that she's playing mind games. If you go along with it, she'll never respect you and she'll hold all the power in the relationship. If she's not giving it up by date three, dump her.

Apparently, not that many people follow this rule. It's kind of silly to form these types of rules about dating and relationships. If a special girl came along, I am sure any guy would be willing to wait for her. This rule only applies to guys whose top priority is getting laid.
