Clean up your credit by paying your debts. If you need a cell phone get a prepaid. It stinks, but you can get through it. Don't create more debt before you clean up the old debt.

My credit sux. I went to US Cellular. I paid a $100 security deposit which i can get back this year. I pay $50. a month. All incoming calls are free. Nights and weekends are $5.99 a month. Nights start at 7:00pm. Holidays are Free. Incoming calls are also free. Though my minutes do not roll over i find my 1000 minutes to be plenty each month. In fact now that i do much of my correspondence via email i find it more than adequate. Also credit cards stink. They can really do a lot more damage to your credit. Apply for a visa check card. Anyone can get one. Go through a credit union. Furthermore to establish good credit, build a re pour with a credit union ( banks are worthless unless they offer a better rate on their Cd's or something) Anyways build a good re pour with a credit union and take out a small loan of $500. You'll put $500. In a savings account 1st i think. The idea is so that you can slowly pay back the money to build on your credit and you can just continue that process. There are bound to be other ways but there are also alot of credit re-building scams out. Do your homework! Get a debit card. Credit cards a worthless.

I'd recommend getting a secured credit card to help establish a better credit rating. You'll give the credit supplier $500 which is used as a security deposit. They have no risk because they have $500 of your money to use towards paying your debt should you default. You cannot over-extend yourself. They will report to credit bureaus when you pay on time every month, so make sure to do so.
As for cell phones, you can find suppliers who will give you a non-prepaid phone, but I'd recommend getting a prepaid and not worrying about wondering what your bill is going to be month-to-month. Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile and Tracfone have good prepaid plans.

Most places will give you a secured card. This allows you to rebuild your credit while having access to the credit card. The way it works is you make a deposit like $500 (the mins vary) and then you can use up to $500 on the credit card. They report you to the credit bureaus so you are rebuilding your credit. Orchardbank.com is a great place to start and 99% of the time you will get approved for a secured card at least.

I don't have good credit,,but I have paid everything I owed,,however it stays on there for 7 long years,,no bankruptcy,,or public bills,,like student loans,,
I just got a nice phone from T-Mobile,,,$39/month,,1500 minutes,,takes pictures has internet,,I never even had to pay a deposit.
I'd try it,,,at worst I would probably think you would have to pay a deposit of some kind,,,you would get it back,,probably in 6 months.
Good Luck,,,,I know bad credit is awful,,,I will be a lot more responsible in the future,,mine was medical bills mostly.also have 3 little credit cards,,have to start somewhere. Try orchard bank,,home depot,,credit one,,they all gave me cards,,not huge ones,,but I was happy!!

Cell Phone: Sprint is really good. They don't require a great credit score. If you can't get one through them, then Virgin Prepaid works well. Buy it online or at Radio Shack.
Credit card: use Free Card Matrix. YOU get paid when you have others get a credit card too. That's a nice change! https://www.freecardmatrix.com/application.aspx?ref_id=Dexterblack

With a phone the best way is prepaid plans. You pay up front for the minutes instead of after you use them. With credit cards you usually have to give them a "good faith fee" before you get the card and that's normally expensive.

Actually if you have bad credit, unless you get a secured credit card and a pay as you go phone, then you probably don't get either.
