These questions are largely seperate.
First, if people did their homework and voted out of office dirty politicians, we wouldn't have this problem, but we don't, and we get what we deserve.
Second, I work for the Post Office and Yesterday we sent out 3 different mass mailings for our local cable company. This isn't uncommon. I probably shouldn't complain since it pays my bills that people like them send so much mail, but again, if people do their homework and find out what their alternatives are and excercise their free will, this advertising will no longer be cost effective, and will stop.

Free thought would be nice. Most of the people on this site claim to "think for themselves", but they're all delusional. Very few people think for themselves, especially when it comes to politics. If every American was fully informed, came to logical conclusions, and voted, then lobbyists couldn't have a huge effect.
Advertising and "high prices" do not have a direct relationship. For example, advertising allows a company to sell hordes more of a product. The volume of sales, and diminishing returns on production, allow the price to be lower. If you're looking for a negative effect on pricing, look at the cost of frivolous lawsuits. The price of many products would plummet (including healthcare) if companies didn't have to constantly fend off every slacker looking for an easy buck.

well I'm not sure this is already in place but i think if these lobbyist are brought to the fore front and made known to the American people what they are lobby for and why this may flush them out and help voter's to know why they are putting certain people in office. One thing I've found is helpful is to go on line and find out the voting record of the people in congress and the house of Representatives also we as Americans need to know more about the locals we put in office as more often they do not represent the things we think they are we as Americana's need to let the right and left know that we put them there and we have the power to take them out if they are not for us!

Little can be done without the risk of pushing the special interest groups into clandestine meetings with polititicians in which the same unethical activities will take place only without the benefit of media exposure. Lets keep everything on the up and up then at least we can weed out the politicians that feel the need to act on behalf of special interest instead of their voting constituents.
