I have noticed a lot of hard @sses answering this question. No, hell is not eternal. Hell mostly is a state of mind, right hear on earth. This state includes those hard hearted enough to believe in such an evil concept. If you had a child and they did something as stupid as steal a car would you shoot them in the head as punishment? No, I suspect most of you would not. You would be angry, maybe ground them or whatever. But no matter what your child did you would unconditionally love them as you should. The functional physical microcosm is a reflection of the spiritual macrocosm. In other words how much more will God unconditionally love us seeing s(he) is the archetype for perfect love? And for those of you would dare or indoctrinatedly think some people are not God's children, karma will prick you heart. When you have had enough suffering and as glimmer of compassion reaches your heart you will see the light, the light of Mercy Triumphing over Judgment. Stop being white washed tombs. The world has too many modern day Pharisees as it is. Jesus came and turned the law on its head. The woman caught in adultery was supposed to be by law stoned to death. But Jesus understood the spirit of the law was more important than the letter of the law, which if you want to refer to the bible, was written by fallible men. Wake up and stop hating your brothers and sisters. We all will return to the light someday. Some granted will take longer than others. But if you persist in hardening your hearts it will be all that much longer that you'll suffer and have to be separate from the true God. God is not a Book. God is not a book. God is not a book. You'll all assent to it but you do not behave like it. Maybe I am like Jesus chasing out the money changers in the temple with a whip. I feel inspired by the Holy Spirit. And before you say it is from the devil, remember, the Pharisees said the exact same to Jesus. AGAPE to ALL, not just some, but ALL.

Hell is eternal. It is a choice the person makes in life, not by what they do in life, but by whether they repent for whatever bad things they have done and do their best to do good. The bad might outweight the good but if at the end of his life someone is honestly trying to do good to the best of his ability (and, if he has heard of God, then begging God's help in doing so), then he will not be sent to Hell. Only those people who choose to do evil and make no attempt to turn their life around or make repairs for what they have done will be in Hell, and by choosing to live their life that way, they are choosing their fate.
Basically, if a man makes the choice in his life that he wants to be without God, God will grant his request after death, for eternity. If he chooses that he wants to be with God, he will be given that outcome for eternity.

It is generally accepted to be eternal... but there are nine levels to Hell. They are different intensities for different types of punishment, from the mildly uncomfortable first level, on to the ninth, which is reserved for the most evil of souls. There are seven levels to Heaven... the top one being the best, hence "seventh heaven" being a state of bliss. Incidentally, the seventh level of Hell is a frozen wasteland.

Eternal. It's not really much of a question. If you believe there is a hell, then you obviously believe that the bible is true, and the bible says Hell is for eternity.

Eternal. And you don't go to hell for being a bad person. The only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ.

Hell is not something far away. It is here and now and exists simultaneously with Heaven. There is no "afterlife," as in: you only get one shot here and then move on to something terminal as well. Hell is a Christian concept maintained because it keeps people in fear, actually. Look around you. You are making this world with your thoughts and feelings. Are you making it Heaven or are you making it Hell? It is up to you. Don't be afraid.

Let me ask you a question?
If you were God, and you had that choice-would you want to live an eternity with ones who hated you or refused your love?
The way I look at it is this, if God let everyone go to Heaven, it would not be Heaven..... It would be just like this earthly life....Why would there be peace with those who are not for peace or Joy...? Do you think they would change, just because they see God face to face? We are what we are....

I do not believe in hell. It does not exist. A God of love and justice would not create such a place. God wants people to draw close to him with an open heart, he doesn't want people to be afraid of him and withdraw from him because they believe he'll torment them forever if they did something wrong.

Hell is eternal. After death it is too late to seek forgiveness. Remember the parable of the rich man.
